Position Summary

The Head of Tanker Fleet Management will be responsible for the management of the Metrea commercial air-to-air refueling (AAR) tanker fleet, currently composed of the only privately held KC135R and C135R fleet in the world. Responsibilities will include heavy maintenance planning and execution, to include audit of third-party providers; KC135R and C135R component “back shop” internal repair activities, aircraft records and documentation, aircraft publications and airworthiness certification. This role will also be responsible for audit and validation inspection of line maintenance and quality assurance (QA) functions, mechanic certifications and records.  

The Head of Tanker Fleet Management will report into the Metrea Air Mobility Group (AIRMOB) and coordinate with Head of Supply Chain Management and Head of Engine Management to ensure component and consumable inventories required for heavy maintenance activities are available as scheduled and off-wing engine maintenance activities are synchronized with other heavy maintenance cycles.  Team leadership and project coordination skills are paramount for this role.  Coordination with the Head of Metrea Strategic Mobility (MSM) tanker business capability unit (CU) is essential to conduct and document line inspection and audit, aircraft records audit, and mechanic certification audits. In addition, coordination with the Head of the Program Management Office (PMO) responsible for ingestion of aircraft from the former French Air Force fleet as C135R and KC135R is fundamental as aircraft return to service.

Essential Functions Statements 

  • Manages the tanker fleet management business capability area (CA) within the Air Mobility Group (AIRMOB).  Guides and manages teams responsible for establishing and maintaining processes, facilities, and policies to sustain the only privately-held fleet of KC-135R and C-135FR tankers in the world.  
  • Projects to be accomplished will focus on the following areas: 
    • KC-135R and C-135FR heavy maintenance planning and execution, to include audit of third-party providers
    • KC-135R and C-135FR component “backshop” internal repair activities
    • aircraft records and documentation
    • aircraft publications
    • aircraft predictive maintenance planning
    • aircraft airworthiness certification
    • audit and validation inspection of line maintenance quality assurance (QA) functions
    • mechanic certification and records.
  • Coordinates with counterparts in Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Engine Management (EM) to ensure tanker fleet managements projects support, and are supported by, activities in these CAs.
  • Coordinates with counterparts in the Metrea Strategic Mobility (MSM) tanker capability unit to ensure projects are supporting, and are supported by, line aircraft operations and maintenance activities.
  • Coordinates with counterparts in the Program Management Office (PMO) responsible for ingestion of aircraft from the former French Air Force fleet as C-135FR and KC-135RG aircraft return to service.

 

Competency Statements

  • 10+ years of prior experience in managing aircraft maintenance, logistics, and supply chain programs.
  • 7+ years prior experience working in a commercial heavy-aircraft aviation maintenance environment is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in aviation logistics, airworthiness, and regulatory compliance
  • Prior certification as an airframe and powerplant (A&P) mechanic is highly desired.
  • Prior experience with USAF KC-135R (or similar military aircraft) maintenance and planning cycles, to include working with technical data from the USAF KC-135R technical order (TO) system is highly desired.
  • Prior experience establishing and sustaining a predictive maintenance planning and execution program is highly desired. 
  • Prior experience working on a US government aviation services contract is highly desired, with prior experience working directly with NAVAIR on a contract is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and time management skills are required.

 

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Business Administration, or Engineering

 

Travel:

  • Travel requirements are between 35 – 50% (both domestic and international)

Work Locations

  • Remote, with expectation of significant travel to maintain presence at key locations in the Metrea tanker enterprise

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Exempt Employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require. Non-Exempt employees may be required to work over 40 hours per week with approval from the department manager.


Work Location

Work from home- with some travel primarily to Metrea locations.
