Job Purpose:
Job Title: Social Media Executive - Fisheries & Angling and Boating
Salary: £27,220 + benefits
Location: Remote working with Birmingham, Hatton or Gloucester hub allocated when required.
Working hours: 9:00 - 17:30 Monday to Thursday; 9:00 - 17:00, Friday; You will also join the Trust’s weekend social media rota (covering one weekend in five, with time off taken in lieu).

We are offering an opportunity to join us as a Social Media Executive helping to grow awareness and support across our national Fisheries & Angling and Boating accounts.In this role you will pick up great work already done in communicating, informing and providing essential support to over 100,000 (and growing) followers of our fisheries and angling and boating social media accounts. You will:
- Support the Canal & River Trust’s fisheries & angling and boating social media presence (Facebook and Twitter) – helping to engage and grow interest and support for the Trust’s charitable activities.
- Ensure that all queries and interactions are dealt with in an appropriate way, achieving and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction and engagement.
- Develop content for, and curate, the fisheries & angling and boating social media pages, ensuring all content is timely, on brand, engaging and has a clear purpose. This includes working with colleagues to boost well performing posts.
- Track and report on social media performance across the accounts, sharing feedback, successes, and opportunities to improve performance.

Location/base: This role will be based from home, but with an office ‘hub’ preferably in either Birmingham (central), Hatton & Gloucester for collabroative team meetings. It is therefore important that applicants are able to commute easily to either of these locations.
Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience :
The Trust continues to drive ambitious targets to grow awareness of and support for our charitable activities. In the last few years, our social media following has more than doubled, and we provide a seven-day social media service. The post holder will provide essential support to the Trust’s Fisheries & Angling and Boating social media accounts, further growing their reach and influence.
Your tasks will include:
- Day-to-day running of the Trust’s fisheries & angling and boating social media channels, maintaining strong audience interaction and engagement.
- Increase supporters and develop relationships with communities across social media channels by interacting and engaging with key audiences.
- Highlight opportunities to engage with potential supporters online through key trends, news topics and conversations.
- Manage a fisheries & angling and boating social media content calendars.
- Provide regular reporting and analysis of the performance of social media content and channels against agreed benchmarks and KPIs.
- Support the digital promotion of the Trust’s ‘Let’s Fish‘ and other community engagement programmes.
- Occasionally attending events to gather content that performs well on social media. Advising other teams on what works well so they can support with content creation.
- Displaying the Trust values and behaviours both online and in person.
- Ensuring that diversity and inclusion are integrated into all aspects of Trust life.
About you
We are looking for a great communicator who understands the importance of social media in growing a brand and delivering customer service. You will love creating content that best reflects our charity’s work, growing awareness and inspiring action from supporters along the way. You’ll be a fantastic ambassador for the Trust, always championing a strong collaborative team approach.
Technical:
- Proven experience in the day-to-day support of social media accounts across different platforms for a brand or organisation.
- Demonstrable passion for social media community management and the ability to foster on-going engagement across platforms.
- Experience using platforms such as Hootsuite, Canva and Business Suite in efficient ways.
- Experience in using Photoshop and picture editing skills, with a keen eye for design.
- Experience of filming and editing short form video content for social media.
- Creative thinker with impeccable persuasive copy-writing skills.
- Knowledge of digital marketing.
General:
- A genuine desire to help ensure that we #KeepCanalsAlive for future generations.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment; must be a team player.
- Diligent work ethic; joining the Trust’s weekend social media rota.
- Strong time management and organisational skills.
- Experience of working in a charity is preferred but not essential.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Self-motivated and able to take initiative.
