Who are we hiring?

 The News Services department is responsible for tracking all of MSG Entertainment, MSG Sports and Sphere Entertainment’s media presence in media publications, social media and radio both within the tri state area, as well as relevant markets (LA, Chicago, Las Vegas, etc.). The News Services Monitor is responsible for monitoring media publications (both print and online) for related mentions of the MSG family of companies that occur. Once clips are identified, the New Services Monitor will be responsible for gathering and formatting these articles into the proper clip report. The New Services Monitor is also responsible for distributing clips and compiling clip reports. Person can also fill in for other team members when needed.

 What will you do?

  • Use designated monitoring tools to monitor print publications, online and social media outlets for any MSG and industry mentions
  • Track, format, and distribute department clip reports for Knicks, Rangers, Entertainment, MSG Networks, Sports Properties and Corporate
  • Monitor Sports and Entertainment reporters on Twitter for purpose of capturing stories
  • Format actual clips into clip report, paying close attention to formatting guidelines
  • Maintain and keep up to date knowledge of client requirements and business developments, the media environment and working procedures
  • Use independent judgment to prepare media briefs as per department specifications and ensure that deadlines and quality standards are met
  • Research a variety of topics for the Communications department, including potential pitching opportunities
  • Transcribe interviews or broadcast segments for archival purposes
  • Serve as backup for other staff members (vacations, sick time, etc.)

 What do you need to succeed?

  • 1-3 years of experience in sports & entertainment
  • Advanced knowledge and passion of sports, particularly the tri-state area teams, as well as MSG’s brands and properties
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate news item accurately and with urgency, spotting current trends and forecasting potential issues
  • Meticulous attention to detail and eye for formatting
  • Public relations and/or journalistic background and ability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Positive attitude and ability to work well with others in different environments and situations
  • Preferred experience in corporate communications preferably at a media/entertainment, news or sports company or property; or agency experience representing media/entertainment companies and experience with Meltwater, Muck Rack, Critical Mention, and/or other media monitoring tools

  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends and holidays
