Job Title: Staff Accountant - Real Estate (Remote)

Job Overview

We are looking for a meticulous and skilled Staff Accountant to enhance our dynamic finance team. This pivotal role focuses on residential real estate accounting and is essential to our organization’s financial integrity. You will thrive in a collaborative setting that prioritizes precision, efficiency, and ongoing enhancement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of monthly income statements and variance reports.
  • Support the preparation of audit documentation and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities.
  • Oversee general ledger management and journal entries, reconciliating sub-ledgers while ensuring cash transaction verification and monthly reconciliations.
  • Monitor monthly utility expenses, verify tenant billings, and collect lease data for property acquisitions.
  • Aid in audit processes by providing necessary documentation, responses to inquiries, and assisting in the evaluation of internal controls.
  • Scrutinize property-related transactions for accuracy, compliance, and completeness.
  • Engage in initiatives aimed at improving systems and processes to boost financial reporting efficiency.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and ensure proper handling of amortizations, accruals, and adjustments.
  • Collaborate closely with the internal real estate team to ensure the accurate representation of accounting functions.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in Excel and experience with General Ledger/Property Management Software is essential.
  • Experience with Propertyware is highly desirable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication capabilities.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to meet stringent deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail is critical for success in this role.

  • Minimum of three years' experience in residential real estate accounting is required, with a preference for candidates familiar with GAAP accounting principles.
