Job Title: GIS Project ManagerDepartment: GISReports To: Sr. GIS ManagerLocation: Remote
As the GIS Project Manager at Pearce Services , you will serve as the primary point of contact for the renewables divisions, working collaboratively with the GIS team, Implementation, Business Development, and Operations teams. This role is pivotal in driving the successful execution of GIS projects within the renewables division, ensuring alignment with business goals, and maintaining a high level of data compliance. The GIS Project Manager will be responsible for project intake, scoping, planning, resource allocation, and end-to-end project management.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Intake and Scoping - Collaborate with the renewables divisions to understand and translate project requirements into GIS requirements. - Assess feasibility and limitations within the ESRI enterprise GIS platform. - May be consulted by Business Development to translate client needs into actionable GIS projects. - Project Planning/Design: Responsible for documenting project needs in a perspective that will create actionable GIS requirements. Collaborate with GIS leadership to ensure that the proposed plan follows database and tool standards. - Develop comprehensive project plans outlining tasks, timelines, and resource requirements. All planning will be completed in Azure DevOps. - Work with the Analyst Lead to reserve analysts' resources as needed, considering skill sets and project demands. - Ensure alignment of project plans with overall GIS and organizational objectives.
Project Management - Azure DevOps will be used for all project tracking in accordance with Pearce’s DevOps standards. - Lead the end-to-end management of GIS projects within the renewables division. - Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies. - Facilitate regular communication and updates to stakeholders, including internal GIS teams and external collaborators. - Monitor estimated vs. actual development hours per GIS resource to ensure project budgeted hours are not exceeded. - Effectively reduce project scope creep through communication by managing operation team’s expectations. When necessary, implement a phased rollout approach to accommodate all feature requests.
Compliance and Process Analysis - Ensure that requested data architecture supports the operations and implementation team’s efforts to drive process compliance and efficiency. - Perform analysis to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
Knowledge Sharing and Training - There will be an on-going aspect of coaching stakeholders on tool functionality, the estimated level of effort by the GIS developers or analysts to accommodate requirements requests, and how to request changes. - Stay updated on advancements in GIS technology and share knowledge with the team. - Help managers identify gaps in knowledge within the GIS team and plan to fill those gaps through training and hiring.
Communication - Maintain clear and effective communication channels internally within the GIS team and externally with business development, operations, and the implementation team. - Act as a liaison between the GIS team and other departments to ensure smooth project execution.
Expertise Required In Software And Technologies - ESRI Suite - ArcGIS Pro/Desktop - ArcGIS Online - ArcGIS Enterprise - ArcGIS Experience Builder - ArcGIS Dashboards - ESRI Mobile Applications such as Field Maps, Survey123, Workforce, etc... - Knowledge of fGDB and eGDB formats. - Knowledge of ArcSDE Operations & Administration will be preferred. - Good to have knowledge of Postgres/SQL/Python. - Azure DevOps or similar Agile, Jira, or other similar project management software.
Qualifications - Bachelor/Master’s degree or equivalent experience in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related field. - Proven experience in GIS project management. Experience within the renewable energy sector is desired but not required. - Strong proficiency in the ESRI Enterprise platform. - Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. - Effective communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders. - Previous experience in scoping, planning, and managing GIS projects from initiation to completion.
