The Costain ESG team are responsible for the development of ESG strategy, policies and procedures as well as monitoring project performance and regulatory reporting. ESG is a broad collection of topics, however, this team is principally responsible for social sustainability, and they play an important influencing role across all other ESG topics (carbon, EDI, nature, wellbeing…).
Costain’s ESG managers are responsible for specific topics such as social value and community, EDI and regulatory reporting. They are responsible for setting policies and procedures to enable the business to operate in a responsible way and in turn managing risks and opportunities to meet stakeholder expectations (customer, colleague, investor).
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Managing ESG reporting, working closely with other internal teams to provide high-quality disclosures (Annual Report, ESG Report and additional disclosures (gender pay gap, ethnicity pay gap and modern slavery)).
Managing ESG communications (internal and external) including maintaining the ESG section of the Costain website, ensuring content is current and compliant with statutory reporting requirements and avoiding greenwashing.
Responsible for the development of ESG plans and strategies (EDI, social value, ratings) and,
Project management of [ESG, social value, EDI] initiatives and actions.
Developing, maintaining and assuring compliance with ESG policies and procedures.
Managing communities of practice (social value, community and customer, EDI) and setting standards.
Supporting bid responses as the Costain subject matter expert (social value, community and customer, EDI).Collecting contract performance data, assuring accuracy and feeding into internal reporting.
Essential
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Experience must include either corporate reporting, social value or EDI
Proven verbal and written communication skills
Project management skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities are essential
Knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements, or the Social Value Act or Equalities Act.
Desirable
Comfortable with budget responsibility
Experience in bid writing and shaping customer solutions
An in-depth knowledge and understanding of Costain’s customers' ESG priorities.
