Job description



The Organised Territory Manager (TM) is Imperial Brands' key contact for retail customers, driving strategies to increase volume, market share, and profit. Focus on key segments (grocery, petrol, convenience) to generate demand through retailer engagement and product education, meeting individual and team goals while setting best practice standards.

They manage relationships, ensure compliance with trading terms, and identify growth opportunities within existing accounts. The TM oversees order management and reporting to ensure product availability, visibility, and optimal performance.

Externally, the TM uses market knowledge to build strong retailer relationships, while collaborating internally to ensure efficient processes and exceptional in-store execution aligned with company KPIs. Role reports to Area Sales Manager and is Auckland, New Zealand based, permanent opportunity. An inclusive, innovative global FMCG business supported by 25,000 employees.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Build strong retailer relationships, communicate objectives, and secure buy-in to drive growth and product placement.

  • Ensure compliance with distribution, planograms, stock freshness, and core product availability, while resolving issues quickly.

  • Leverage store data, shopper insights, and competitor activity to drive sales, support growth proposals, and inform internal teams.

  • Consistently achieve sales targets, execute call steps, and align Imperial’s portfolio with retail strategies to maximize profitability.

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, participate in training, and contribute to cross-functional projects.



Skills and Experience Required

  • Direct selling experience, preferably within FMCG and organised retail accounts (e.g., grocery, petrol, convenience).

  • Strong ability to build and maintain commercial relationships with retailers and internal stakeholders, ensuring smooth execution of trading terms and strategic initiatives.

  • Proven track record in managing and validating customer orders accurately and on time.

  • Solid understanding of organised retail customer needs, operational frameworks, and buying principles, beyond the Tobacco category.

  • Proficient in commercial negotiation, data analysis, and delivering impactful presentations, with the ability to close sales and achieve profitable outcomes.
