Our Legal, Risk, and Compliance (“LRC”) department is looking for a Contract Specialist based in Houston to join our team! In this role, you’ll be a partner to the business, collaborating closely with sales, finance, product, and marketing teams on a variety of contract and legal matters.

As a Contract Specialist, you will play a critical role in drafting, negotiating, and managing commercial and public procurement contracts to support Kpler’s global business objectives. You will be responsible for ensuring contracts are structured to mitigate risks, comply with regulatory requirements, and align with Kpler’s commercial strategy.

Responsibilities
  • Draft, review and analyze a broad range of contract types for clients and service providers (e.g., Master Agreements, bespoke general terms and conditions - including governmental contracts -  amendments, order forms, and tender documents), ensuring legal compliance and protecting Kpler’s interests, aligned with Kpler’s policies and risk appetite. 
  • Act as a key point of contact to internal stakeholders.
  • Lead and support contracting negotiations, proactively addressing legal risks.
  • Participating in the sales process of legal tech products, providing legal expertise and support to the sales team.
  • Maintain and optimize contract management processes within Kpler’s contract lifecycle management system (Ironclad), ensuring accurate filing, tracking, and reporting. Assist in implementing best practices for contract efficiency and compliance.
  • Conduct research to identify trends, emerging risks, and potential legal issues in contracts and procurement processes. Monitor updates in applicable laws and regulations. 
  • Maintain a high level of responsiveness to internal stakeholders, prioritizing tasks effectively, balancing multiple contract negotiations, and making sound, risk-based decisions in a fast-paced environment.

  • Skills and Experience
  • Education: Master in Law or Bachelor’s Degree with extensive experience in contract negotiations.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience as a Contract Specialist or equivalent in a corporate  environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in contract review and risk assessment.
  • A team player with strong collaboration and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with an eye for detail.
  • Proficiency with software applications, such as Microsoft Office 365 Suite, Adobe, Slack, Google Docs, etc.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that enable cross-functional collaboration with all levels of the company, including executive management and sales teams.
  • Ability to work independently and shift priorities, be resilient in high-pressure environment, to think broadly and demonstrate a high level of initiative and ownership when required.
  • Commercial and strategic in outlook with a problem solving approach.
  • Positive attitude and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Nice to have/Preferred:
  • Experience working in a legal and/or technology-related field (SaaS/DaaS) and/or in US federal procurement law/processes.
  • Spanish and/or Portuguese language.
