Fact-Checker for Opinion Group

We are seeking a detail-oriented and meticulous Fact-Checker to join our Opinion Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching and verifying the accuracy of submitted opinion content, ensuring that our columns are rooted in fact and uphold our commitment to truthful reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Research and Verification: Conduct thorough research to verify the facts presented in submitted opinion articles. Cross-check information against reliable sources, including academic journals, official reports, and credible news outlets.
  • Fact-Checking Protocols: Develop and maintain fact-checking standards and protocols to ensure consistency and accuracy in the verification process.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with opinion writers, editors, and other stakeholders to clarify any discrepancies and provide feedback on factual accuracy.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of sources and methodologies used in the fact-checking process, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on best practices in fact-checking and incorporate new techniques and tools to enhance the verification process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in journalism or any other subject or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience in fact-checking, research, or investigative journalism.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Strong research and investigative abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using fact-checking tools and databases.
  • Commitment to accuracy and integrity in reporting.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Independence and initiative in conducting thorough research.
