Job Description:

The Director of Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the revenue cycle process.  This role ensures that financial processes are efficient, compliant, and optimized to maximize revenue capture while maintaining excellent patient and payer relationships. The Director will lead a team, implement demonstrated best practices, and work closely with clinical, financial, and operational teams to improve overall financial performance.

Revenue Cycle Oversight & Strategy 

  • Direct and manage daily revenue cycle operations, including billing, follow-up and collections, cash posting, denial management, and credit balance reviews. 
  • Monitor and optimize revenue cycle performance metrics such as payer mix, A/R aging, collection rates, denial trends, and appeal success rates
  • Develop and implement policies, workflows, and controls to improve efficiency and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (Medicare, Medicaid, CMS, commercial payers). 
  • Lead efforts to integrate acquired practices into Alpine’s revenue cycle operations, ensuring seamless transitions. 
  • Partner with finance, operations, and IT to drive automation, system enhancements, and best practices in billing, collections, and reimbursement. 

Financial & Compliance Leadership 

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and payer-specific billing regulations
  • Identify and resolve revenue leakage issues, including charge capture, coding, and reimbursement gaps
  • Maintain an updated fee schedule and ensure reimbursement is optimized based on payer contracts. 

  • Oversee insurance verification, coding, billing, and payment posting processes, continuously refining workflows for efficiency. 

Staff Management & Development 

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the revenue cycle team to ensure high performance and continuous learning. 
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and implement training programs to keep staff up to date with industry changes, payer policies, and technology advancements. 
  • Foster a collaborative and customer-focused culture, ensuring strong communication with providers, staff, and leadership. 

Reporting & Performance Improvement 

  • Provide regular revenue cycle performance updates to senior leadership, including detailed reports and data-driven insights. 
  • Analyze trends in denials, underpayments, and reimbursement rates, implementing corrective action plans as needed. 
  • Ensure revenue cycle systems are optimized for maximum efficiency and data accuracy. 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in revenue cycle management, preferably in healthcare or hospital settings.
  • Strong knowledge of medical billing, coding (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS), payer rules, and reimbursement methodologies.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) and revenue cycle management systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Meditech).
  • Expertise in revenue cycle KPIs, financial reporting, and process improvement strategies.
  • Assessing and implementing automation and outsourcing opportunities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with peers and colleagues in the organization.
  • Strong knowledge of billing, collections, cash posting, and compliance regulations in the healthcare industry.
  • Demonstrated success in reducing A/R, improving cash flow, and driving revenue cycle efficiencies.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and drive organizational change.
  • Proficiency in RCM technology, reporting tools, and data analysis.
  • Experience managing system integrations, workflow redesigns, and process automation in a growth-oriented, evolving environment.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze strengths and areas of opportunity and lead cogent planning with both individuals and groups in developing and implementing successful outcomes.
  • Knowledge of managed care and value-based care financial concepts (claim reserving, incentive calculations, etc.) preferred.
  • Excellent analytic and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to listen effectively and be open to the ideas of others.  Able to present data and translate complex issues into comprehensible ideas in a concise and easily understood manner.
  • Ability to travel periodically, and to successfully operate in a remote work environment.
