We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented legal professional to join our team as Associate Counsel. As an integral member of our legal department, your primary responsibility will be to review and summarize estate plans for the ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) clients of our platform users. You will utilize our cutting-edge technology to perform these reviews with precision and efficiency, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and quality. You should be experienced with advanced estate planning techniques and also understand the intricacies of working in a fast-paced startup environment. This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of a rapidly growing company and to contribute to the development of an innovative software solution that provides the same legal rigor as seasoned estate attorneys.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct detailed reviews and provide clear and concise summaries of estate plans for UHNW clients, leveraging our advanced platform technology to maximize efficiency and ensure the highest standards of quality.
  • Support senior counsel with the maintenance of our legal templates and workflows for the formation of estate planning documents across all 50 states and DC, including state-by-state legal nuances 
  • Provide full product life-cycle counseling, including building scalable and efficient processes, in support of creating dynamic solutions for end users, financial advisors and other fiduciary industry experts
  • Lend legal expertise to the engineering and data science teams in developing AI tools
  • Travel to customer on-sites, trainings, and other meetings as needed
  • Be responsive to customer questions 
  • Stay up-to-date on laws and regulations, trusts and estates, wealth transfer and tax-driven planning
  • As the need arises, support the Chief Legal Officer to address legal risk in business-centric decisions, including strategic projects, contract negotiations, and product risk management


  • Qualifications:
  • J.D. degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school
  • Active law license in at least one U.S. state, in good standing  
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney or equivalent experience as a wealth strategist for UHNW clients, with demonstrated expertise in reviewing a wide range of estate planning documents from basic revocable trusts and Wills to GRATs and IDGTs.
  • Strong understanding of estate and gift tax rules, including Forms 706 and 709
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), with an ability to breakdown and articulate complex legal considerations in layman terms
  • Proactive and problem-solving mindset with a passion for new areas of business and technology development in fintech and estate planning
  • Excellent judgment and aptitude for optimization given ambiguous and imperfect information
  • Ability to manage projects as a resourceful and execution-oriented self-starter, to pivot between projects and competing objectives, to learn quickly and to think creatively
  • Ability to collaborate with and build strong relationships across departments
  • Experience with business development
  • Willingness to travel 3 to 4 times a year to attend company retreat and in-person meetings with customers (U.S. only)
  • As the need arises, support the Chief Legal Officer to address legal risk in business-centric decisions, including strategic projects, contract negotiations, and product risk management
