ABOUT THIS ROLE

Description:

Lead Accountants on the Apex Finance team are responsible for handling month-end close duties and analysis of financial details for stand-alone legal entities. This role reports to the Accounting Manager and supports the Assistant Controller.  He/She interacts with several Apex teams, including Billing, Treasury, Operations, Compliance, and Technology. 

The Lead Accountant must be a critical thinker, analytical, energetic, and possess strong attention to detail. Specifically, the senior level individual is expected to manage larger and/or more complex daily tasks, independently solve complex problems on behalf of themselves and other team members, help recommend and implement ideas that improve the overall group performance, train other team members, and perform a supervisory review of internal control processes.

Work Environment: 

• Remote Setup within the Philippines (preferably within Manila/Luzon) 
• Will work US Hours (EST) while following Philippines Holiday

Duties and responsibilities:

• Perform assigned monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger closing and reporting processes.
• Estimate, analyze, and record month-end expense accruals.
• Prepare reconciliations for assigned accounts. Proactively communicate daily status and escalate issues as needed.
• Handle other accounting duties as assigned. Examples: revenue analysis, fixed asset management, intercompany expenses, variance analysis.
• Prepare Cash forecast & analysis  
• Analyze & interpret accounting standards to ensure compliance with regulations. Implement new standards when necessary
• Review of accounts payable, financial review and analysis, review of account reconciliations and accruals, and overall maintenance of the firm’s accounting records.
• Handle audit requests for financial statement audits
• Actively cross-train to provide back-up coverage for team members
• Solve complex operational problems and proactively determine and implement improvements to workflows and controls, minimize risk and manual workflows and reduce inefficiencies
• Actively participate in firmwide and departmental projects and initiatives, occasionally acting as the lead
• Serve as a back-up and resource to department management and accounting staff for daily or ad-hoc tasks

The skills you’ll need to succeed:   

Required

• Bachelor of Science degree in accounting
• Minimum of 5-10 years accounting experience, preferably in a similar role for a clearing or investment firm, proprietary trading firm, bank, or trust company
• Public Accounting experience
• Excellent attention to detail, an exceptionally high degree of initiative and adaptability, and the ability to multi-task
• The ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
• The ability to work with numerous and conflicting deadlines
• The ability to perform many complex and confidential tasks with speed and accuracy
• Strong analytical skills to solve complex problems
• The ability to exercise independent judgment
• Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills and the ability to communicate constructively within the department and the firm
• Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

Preferred

• CPA or equivalent
• Experience using NetSuite accounting system
• Intermediate to Advanced Excel abilities
