Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Director of Clinical Operations will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight across a network of eight hospitals. This role will ensure the efficient and effective delivery of ancillary  services, including laboratory, sterilization, biomedical services, radiology (X-ray), and pharmacy. This role focuses on optimizing operational workflows, ensuring regulatory and CURE Standards compliance, improving service quality, and enhancing patient care through effective management of the clinical support departments. This position is remote based on the continent of Africa, preferably in one of our hospital countries.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Develop and implement strategies to optimize the performance of ancillary services across the hospital network.
    • Collaborate with hospital executive directors, medical directors, and hospital based Directors of Clinical Support Services to align operations with organizational goals.
    • Collaborate with hospital teams and strategic partners to establish and implement CURE Standards.
    • Monitor industry trends and innovations to ensure the network stays at the forefront of medical operations.
    • Collaborate with the CMO, CPO, SafeCare Lead in areas like patient flow, patient safety, budgeting, and staffing.
  • Operational Oversight:
    • Ensure the delivery of high-quality lab, sterilization, biomedical services, radiology (X-ray), and pharmacy services.
    • Monitor patient and staff safety programs to include radiation monitoring.
    • Implement standardized operating procedures and best practices across all facilities.
    • Manage resource allocation, including staffing, equipment, and budgets, to enhance efficiency and service quality.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure all ancillary services comply with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.
    • Develop and oversee quality assurance programs to maintain high standards of patient care and safety.
    • Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
  • Team & Resource Management:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop the hospital based Directors of Clinical Support Services.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
    • Provide performance evaluations, training, and professional development opportunities for staff.
    • Coordinate with the finance department to determine budget needs.
  • Crisis Management:
    • Develop and implement emergency response plans for ancillary  services.
    • Ensure readiness to handle medical emergencies, natural disasters, and other crises.
    • Coordinate with emergency management teams to provide timely and effective responses.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in healthcare operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple hospital facilities and ancillary  services.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, compliance standards, and best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in medicine, business or similar field; MBA, MPA, MPH or similar advanced degree strongly preferred.
  2. Licensed medical doctor is strongly preferred.
  3. Excellent communication skills are a must, including the ability to craft compelling presentations, proposals, and reports. Proficiency in email communications and the ability to present ideas clearly and effectively to diverse audiences is required.
  4. Five or more (5+) years of senior-level management experience with a proven record of success, including progressive responsibility in the areas of managing, coaching and inspiring direct reports.
  5. Appreciation for a high-performing culture that values teamwork, integrity, excellence, and dedication to the mission.
  6. Extreme attention to detail is crucial to ensure accuracy in all aspects of work, including documentation and communication.
  7. A keen eye for operational efficiency and optimal use of resources; experience improving effectiveness of an operation by establishing goals and performance standards.
  8. Proficiency in Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
