Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated and relationship-focused Account Manager to join our clients growing team in the building supplies sector. This role is crucial for maintaining and expanding our clients business with key wholesale and building supply partners, while also fostering relationships with builders and contractors in the Munster region. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator with a passion for building long-term partnerships and a solid understanding of the building industry. While sales are a component of the role, the primary focus is on account management and relationship building.


This role may suit someone looking to switch into an account management or sales career – key is having knowledge of construction products and being able to talk about them.


You will live in Munster and work from home when not out meeting clients.


About the Role

Key Responsibilities:


Account Management (Wholesalers/Building Suppliers)

  • Manage and nurture existing relationships with wholesale and building supply companies.
  • Develop and implement account plans to drive sales growth within these accounts.
  • Provide product training and support to wholesale/supplier staff.
  • Negotiate pricing and contracts within established guidelines.
  • Monitor sales performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., marketing, logistics) to ensure smooth order fulfilment and customer satisfaction.
  • Regularly visit customer sites to build rapport and understand their needs.


Relationship Building (Builders/Contractors):

  • Develop and maintain relationships with builders and contractors in the assigned territory.
  • Promote our clients products and services to builders, highlighting their benefits and value proposition.
  • Provide technical advice and support to builders on product selection and application.
  • Gather feedback from builders on product performance and market trends.
  • Identify and qualify potential new builder accounts.
  • Collaborate with wholesalers/suppliers to ensure builders have access to our products.


Sales Activities (Supporting Role):

  • Identify and pursue sales opportunities within existing accounts and with builders.
  • Prepare and present quotations and proposals.
  • Close deals and achieve sales targets (where applicable and agreed).
  • Track sales activity and report on progress.


Market Intelligence:

  • Stay up-to-date on market trends, competitor activities, and new product developments.
  • Provide feedback to management on market conditions and opportunities.


Administration

  • Maintain accurate records of customer interactions and sales activities.
  • Prepare reports on account performance and sales progress.
  • Manage expenses effectively.


Qualifications - Required Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in account management or sales within the building supplies industry.
  • Strong understanding of building materials and construction practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers.
  • Strong negotiation and closing skills.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Full clean driving license.
