We have been leading with purpose for over 130 years, building iconic brands that win the hearts and minds of consumers – such as Raid®, Glade®, Ziploc® and more, in virtually every country around the world. Together, we are creating a better future – for the planet, for future generations and for every SCJ team member. Join our winning team of Wave Makers and Go Getters and help us write the next chapter in the SCJ story.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The People Safety Manager is a member of the SC Johnson headquarters Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) governance team. This role spans across all business units and their respective manufacturing sites, distribution centers, research and development labs and administrative offices where there are SCJ employees.

As Manager, you will lead development and deployment of robust global enterprise-wide standards, tools, and training designed to support safe, healthy, and compliant workplaces.  You will provide oversight and coaching to the larger SHE Community of Practice to deliver SC Johnson’s safety, health, and environmental strategies.

To be successful in this role, you should possess deep occupational safety and industrial hygiene technical knowledge and experience, while also developing and supporting “champions” within the organization to drive day-to-day ownership for SHE.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads the development and maintenance of SC Johnson’s occupational safety and health standards – including tools and training – designed to prevent serious injuries and exposure to occupational health hazards that can result in harm.

  • Facilitates SHE technical reviews for global machine safeguarding continuous improvement projects.

  • Develops and maintains risk assessment tools designed to identify and prioritize exposure to occupational health hazards that can result in harm. Identifies and tracks completion of risk reduction activities as a leading indicator of SHE performance.

  • Manages standard work processes – including service provider negotiations and contracts – associated with the use of third-party safety and industrial hygiene service providers and completion of technical reviews for draft reports. Partners with stakeholders to ensure timely implementation of applicable third-party recommendations.

  • Provides technical support – such as qualitative/quantitative industrial hygiene risk assessments – to ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards associated.

  • Serves as a headquarters SHE liaison to the global medical and risk management teams on the management of workers compensation matters.

  • Provides training and mentoring to regional, business unit and site SHE resources to strengthen safety and industrial hygiene competencies.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline AND 7+ years of relevant and progressive safety, health and environmental safety experience in a global manufacturing environment

  • Designation as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) required or ability to achieve certification within 18 months.

  • Qualified candidates must be eligible to work in the United States

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

  • Relevant experience in a global manufacturing environment within consumer packaged goods, chemical, or pharmaceutical industries

  • Experience managing activities associated with OSHA’s process safety management standard, the European Seveso Directive or equivalent country-specific requirements intended to prevent the uncontrolled release of hazardous substances

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Machinery Safety Expert (CSME)

  • Experience in driving day-to-day ownership of SHE processes to non-SHE program “champions”

  • Ability to interact with others, establishing open, candid and trusting relationships to create win/win outcomes

  • Project management experience to effectively manage multiple concurrent projects

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • This FT position will work from our Racine Headquarters office location

  • Expected to be available for periodic meetings across time zones

  • Up to 25% domestic and international travel

  • This role is eligible for domestic relocation

  • Remote work available once a week for eligible employees

Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned

at any time with or without notice as assigned by the Manager. The job description does not constitute a contract of employment and the position remains at-will.
