Summary of the primary function of the position and its role.
The Sr. Business Systems Analyst is responsible for researching, analyzing, articulating and documenting business requirements, translating them into technical system design specifications and platform/application documentation, to ensure clear and concise understanding of domain business rules and non-functional requirements. They will participate as a member of an agile team or on larger initiatives based on team and company needs.
The Sr. Business Systems Analyst will engage with both internal and external customers, as well as IT, in response to queries received, providing accurate written or verbal guidance and interpretation in order to maintain high quality customer service standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Works closely with Business Solutions Managers (BSM) and their business partners to understand needs and solutions
- Provides mentorship to Business Systems Analysts.
- Works with developers, architects and testers on solution design and acceptance criteria throughout the development life cycle, including implementation, for new and existing applications, automated systems, reporting, data archival, logging, monitoring, and alerting
- Facilitates business process and data modelling tasks, and the capturing of process and data flows for presentation and integration needs, in alignment with the technology and enterprise architecture roadmaps
- In collaboration with the development teams, defines data inputs, outputs, presentation, mapping, business logic and usage, UX/delivery format, security/compliance, accessibility, and integration specifications
- Identifies and researches user story dependencies and mitigate as much risk prior to the team committing to the feature. This could include spikes, detailing acceptance criteria, or coordinating with external teams.
- Collaborates with the BSM to assist in the creation of user stories in the team’s backlog and aids in the sequencing of user stories considering any dependencies. Works with the team to break apart user stories and detail acceptance criteria.
- Conducts technical research and analysis, executes proof of concepts, supports design pattern development and addresses questions throughout the SDLC
- Creates and maintains detailed documentation of systems business rules and non-functional requirements
- Assists in researching production bugs to determine root cause and coordinates with BSM for creation of backlog bug items, or incremental requirements
- When needed, represents the technical team, in partnership with the BSM in meetings with the business
- Documentation Responsibilities:
- Facilitates creation of user and systems documentation, technical dependency designs, business process flows, data models and data flow requirements
- Interprets, refines, and adds technical details to business requirement specifications for use by developers and testers, to produce system requirements such as data models, screen mock-ups, diagrams, and process flows, to ensure complete and accurate understanding of the request and solution
- Builds reports/dashboards to streamline business processes and further business strategy
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent field, from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst.
- Basic industry standard software testing knowledge and experience
- Experience in Financial Services specifically Mortgage industry is preferred.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies is preferred.
