The Role
Based in Berlin or London, the role will take primary responsibility for operational and administrative work within the Business and Legal Affairs team and will provide operational, legal support to the team across a wide range of global projects, including negotiations with record labels, music publishers and collecting societies, as well as legal research on product compliance or regulatory requirements of the SoundCloud group companies.  You will be a key member of the team reporting to the Director of BALA Music based in London and supporting the broader BALA team.

You will work cross-functionally with various internal teams including Finance, Business Development, Royalties and Reporting, and Engineering, Product and Design (EPD), and will proactively identify solutions that help us reach our business objectives. You will work alongside the broader BALA team, which consists of lawyers with different areas of focus, operational teams such as copyright and trust & safety specialists, and the content licensing team. 

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Primary responsibility for administrative and operational support within the BALA team, including scheduling meetings, managing legal documentation, preparing presentations, attending meetings to take minutes/notes to share with the team and being the point of contact for the team
  • Support the development and refinement of forms and processes for the team 
  • Carry out legal research and assist with drafting legal documents, including the execution and filing of contracts 
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with internal teams to meet our business needs and goals
  • Report to London-based Director
  • Support global BALA team to coordinate SoundCloud’s business affairs on a global basis 
  • Assist with other SoundCloud business and legal tasks as required
  • Stay informed of industry trends

About You

  • A law degree or GDL/LPC graduate or equivalent
  • Legal, contract administration or paralegal experience
  • Ability to read contracts and provide concise summaries
  • Experienced in legal research using professional online search services (e.g. Practical Law)
  • Outstanding organisational, administrative and document management skills
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and a commitment to collaborate
  • Ability to work proactively, independently and reliably on multiple projects
  • Ability to be resourceful, think practically and be solution-oriented
  • Effective time management skills, the ability to work under tight timelines and pivot between tasks
  • An understanding of the digital music rights landscape in the US & Europe
  • Experience of working in a dynamic, fast-paced international environment
  • Strategic thinker and creative problem solver
  • Comfortable dealing with uncertainty and ambiguity
  • Resilient, self-aware and values-driven
  • Fluent in English (German a plus, but by no means essential)
  • Excellent command of Google Suite (including Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Calendar, Google Docs & Google Slides) for required preparation of presentations, drafting and filing of various documents
