Senior Editor, Library

Job Description

Simply Recipes is seeking a full-time senior-level editor to join our team. This position will oversee Simply Recipe’s library of content, and primary responsibilities include ensuring all library content is up to date and meets SEO best practices, strategizing traffic-driving and engagement efforts, and creatively repackaging our library content for special projects and seasonal publications. This position would be ideal for someone who has worked in editorial previously and has extensive experience with current SEO best practices. This position reports to the General Manager of Simply Recipes.

As a food website that reaches millions per month, we have the duty and responsibility to create positive change. We are focusing our hiring efforts on diversity, equity, and inclusion and building a team that reflects our dedication to these principles at every level of our organization.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Manage all projects relating to the care and maintenance of the Simply Recipes library, including but not limited to: quarterly and seasonal url updates, front-linking projects, Google algorithm response projects, targeted retirement or republishing of underperforming content, and the optimization of recently published content for longer-tail traffic performance.

  • Moderate and reply to reader comments and emails, and relay reader feedback to the Simply Recipes team.

  • Collaborate with the Simply Recipes social, newsletter, and other distribution teams to regularly resurface our library content through our various distribution channels.

  • Lead and/or collaborate with Simply Recipes new content team, visuals team, and social team on special projects and seasonal publications, including sponsored packages.

  • Regularly review performance analytics and work with our SEO/Growth team to maximize library performance

  • Strategize new traffic-driving efforts that leverage our library content.

  • Attend and participate in all team meetings, including pitch meetings, strategic planning meetings, and special project meetings

  • Manage library budget, including internal tracking, invoicing, and timecard approvals.

  • Optional writing opportunities and appearances on social media and video content, though this is not a primary responsibility or requirement of this role.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned and mutually agreed upon

About You:

  • Simply Recipes is a service-driven website dedicated to helping people of every background and skill level cook better food for themselves and their families. Candidate should share this mission and feel a strong degree of compassion for the specific challenges facing home cooks (lack of time, budget concerns, dietary restrictions, grocery store access, lack of equipment, etc)

  • Flexibility and collaborative work is the cornerstone for how our company operates. Candidates must have a growth mindset and positive attitude toward new projects and challenges. They should feel comfortable sharing ownership, giving and receiving feedback, and working within a highly collaborative team structure.

  • Simply Recipes is primarily a remote team. Candidates must be adept at communicating and growing relationships over Slack and Zoom with only occasional in-person team gatherings.

  • Degree in English, Journalism, or related field, or equivalent experience

  • 3-6 years working in digital media, preferably at a food- or cooking-related publication

  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and experience with data tracking and analytics

  • Deep culinary and/or cooking knowledge, via recipe development experience, culinary school, restaurant or catering experience, or other related cooking/food experience.

  • Strong editorial skills, particularly crafting headlines and deks, copyediting, formatting content for web publication, and evaluating art/photography for publication

  • An eagle eye for detail and a very high level of organization

  • Experience working within a content management system (like WordPress), Microsoft Office Suite, and Google (Docs, Sheets, and Slides).
