Job Description

Job Title: Grants and Funded Contracts (GFC) Specialist

Department: Development- Grants and Funded Contracts Unit

Supervisor: Director of Grants and Funded Contracts

Location: Washington, DC- Primarily on-site position with an option of working remotely one day a week

Synopsis: The Grants & Funded Contracts (GFC) Specialist will manage a portfolio primarily composed of federal grants and funded contracts totaling approximately $3.5 million. This position demands extensive experience in federal grants management, including compliance with federal regulations, financial stewardship, and grant-making practices. The ideal candidate will bring initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently in a senior-level capacity, serving as a strategic partner to the Director of Grants and Funded Contracts.

Key responsibilities include overseeing federal funding agreements throughout their lifecycle, ensuring compliance, and optimizing organizational impact. The role requires exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and the capacity to navigate complex reporting requirements. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders is essential for maintaining and expanding the funding portfolio to advance La Clínica’s mission of supporting the health and welfare of the Latino community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Revenue & Sustainability
  • Portfolio Maintenance
    • Manage the strategic oversight and administrative management of federal grants and funded contracts portfolio totaling approximately $3.5 million.
    • Conduct regular reviews to ensure compliance with federal regulations, monitor performance metrics, and address challenges proactively.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to meet deliverables, maintain budget fidelity, and ensure adherence to grant requirements.
  • Renewal Funding Acquisition:
    • Lead the preparation and submission of renewal applications for federal funding, ensuring alignment with funder priorities and compliance requirements.
    • Maintain strong funder relationships to secure projected renewal funding and support organizational sustainability.
  • Prospecting & Securing New Funding:
    • Identify and pursue federal funding opportunities that align with La Clínica’s strategic vision.
    • Leverage research tools and partnerships to develop compelling proposals tailored to federal funding priorities.
  1. Capacity-Building and Professional Growth
  • Incorporation of Advanced Technologies:
    • Use cutting-edge technologies like ChatGPT and Fireflies to enhance our GFC unit’s operational efficiency.
  • Professional Development Engagement:
    • Participate in advanced training programs related to federal grant compliance, reporting, and financial management.
    • Collaborate with the Director to create a tailored development plan to align personal goals with organizational priorities.
  1. Collaboration
  • Internal Collaboration:
    • Work closely with cross-departmental teams to ensure alignment on grant deliverables and compliance standards.
    • Support the Director in preparing strategic communications and reports for executive leadership.
  • External Collaboration:
    • Engage directly with federal funders to maintain compliance, address inquiries, and ensure alignment with funding goals.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience: The candidate must have at least 4 years of experience in the non-profit sector, including a minimum of 2 years focused on federal grant-making and compliance, supported by a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience.

Preferred Education and Experience: Preferred candidates will deeply understand federal grant-making practices, including OMB Uniform Guidance and federal reporting systems, and have a proven track record of managing federal grants, meeting deadlines, and ensuring compliance.

Required Skills/Abilities/Certifications/Licenses: Skills include exceptional writing proficiency, fluency in both English and Spanish, technical fluency with Adobe Pro and Microsoft Suite, strong analytical skills for data interpretation, and the ability to manage multiple projects with strict adherence to deadlines.

Preferred Skills/Abilities/Certifications/Licenses: Preferred skills include familiarity with federal grant systems such as SAM.gov, HRSA EHBs, and Grants.gov. The ability to manage multiple priorities independently with minimal supervision.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

 Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
