It's a great time to work for Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG). We are seeking a passionate Entry-Level Naval Architect to join our team of professionals. Here's what you can expect when you work as part of our team!


A DAY IN THE LIFE

  • Develop vessel arrangements, structural fire protection and egress plans; perform hydrostatic, hull resistance, and sea keeping calculations; develop loading manuals, stability analysis, and tonnage calculations.
  • Assess vessel structures using first principal calculations, prescriptive regulatory rules, and finite element analysis (FEA). Prepare fatigue life estimations, structural repair plans, and forensic structural analysis. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including naval architects, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, structural engineers, marine designers, and project managers to ensure seamless integration of engineering systems.
  • Oversee the construction, installation, and commissioning of marine equipment and systems by conducting onsite inspections of marine vessels and offshore structures, identifying and addressing any technical issues.
  • Ensuring Regulatory Compliance: Confirm adherence to all USCG inspected vessel regulations and other class society rules such as ABS, SOLAS, and MARPOL. 
  • Technical Expert: Develop contract technical specifications, purchase specifications and test and trials memos, ensuring seamless integration of new vessel designs, existing vessel modifications and repair.
Requirements

  

  • Education and Experience: Internship experience in commercial vessel design, shipyard and/or vessel operation experience paired with a BS degree in Naval Architecture or related degree.
  • Preferred Intent of Licensure: Intent to pursue a Professional Engineering (PE) License is highly valued, demonstrating commitment to expertise. For this having taken and passed the FE is expected.
  • Effective Communication: Effective writing and communication skills are pivotal to support development of contract design documents, client engagement, regulatory review, and vessel repair and construction.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience and familiarity with AutoCAD, Rhino, Pipe-Flo, GHS, Microsoft 365 strongly desired.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is fully remote, meaning you can work from your home office, across the United States. There may be up to 25% travel to shipyards for inspections.
