THE ROLE:
NextGen America is seeking a Chief of Staff to support the organization in achieving its mission to empower young voters to engage in the electoral process and ensure our government is responsive to the largest and most diverse generation in American history.
NextGen America mobilizes young people to vote in crucial elections to make progress on the issues facing our generation. Since our founding as NextGen Climate in 2013, we’ve worked to support candidates who back action on progressive issues such as climate change, economic inequality, women’s rights and other progressive causes. At NextGen we help register and turnout out millions of young people to make their voices heard.
We seek a Chief of Staff who is mission and outcomes driven, detail oriented, with strong verbal and written communication and leadership skills. We seek a Chief of Staff who will act as the connector among the key leaders of our organization and its various departments and help us fulfill our mission and meet our goals. The Chief of Staff will manage the day-to-day operations of much of the team, as well as see key initiatives from start to finish and be able to effectively manage up as well as down.
This role reports to the President.

WHAT YOU’LL ACHIEVE:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of NextGen’s headquarters team. This includes ensuring teams are working efficiently to accomplish shared goals, planning for the future and meeting deadlines.
- Manage, coach and supervise multiple department vice presidents, including members of the programs, communications and partnerships teams.
- Project manage various strategic initiatives that cut across departments.
- Manage on-going projects including, but not limited to, internal reporting on existing programs, assessment of experimental projects, and development of new programs.
- Develop and implement organizational metrics for success for senior leadership, including determining both qualitative and quantitative benchmarks for all departments.
- Effectively execute the organization’s vision and strategic plan in day to day operations.
- Work closely with the President and help plan and execute their plans and carry out with their guidance and support the organization's strategic plan.
- Work closely with the Development team to ensure programmatic work is aligned with fundraising opportunities and needs.
- Work with the Finance team to align budgets and financial resources to carry out the organization’s planning.
- Manage and modify as needed internal structures of communication and team management across organizations to ensure effective and impactful pragmatic outcomes.
- Help craft electoral plans and organization wide proposals for public and internal consumption.
- Manage hiring processes for leadership roles alongside HR.
- Lead in building a strong organizational culture and support managers to develop internal practices that build strong professional and metric driven teams.
- Fill in for the President in meetings with key stakeholders, political partners and funders to represent the organization.

ABOUT YOU:
- Be a veteran of political campaigns or social change organizations and have experience working on elections.
- Have 10+ years experience managing managers.
- Be confident in their ability to address and resolve internal management challenges.
- Be a strong verbal and written communicator that can effectively manage up and down to ensure alignment throughout the organization and help execute the President and the organization’s strategic vision and plans.
- Be an excellent problem solver with the ability to coach teams and improve systems for stronger outputs.
- Be organized and have a passion for organizing large systems in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that needs to move fast without breaking.
- Have working knowledge of campaign structures and best practices, especially in regards to staffing structures and operations.
- Have enough political know-how to come up with a winning strategy for an election, but not be so set in their ways as to not try new things.
SALARY INFORMATION:
The base salary range for this position is $160,000 - $185,000. The final base salary will be determined by various factors, including individual qualifications and internal parity, which will be objectively assessed during the interview process.
