Job description

Overview:

Sales responsibilities and territory management for Eastern Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada representing all imprints; Harper Canada, Harper US, Harper UK, HCCP, Harlequin and Usborne.

 

This is a remote position.

Responsibilities:
  • Selling activities and support of all HCC products to independent booksellers and trade wholesalers. Present frontlist title catalogues to independent booksellers seasonally.
  • Responsible for backlist sales strategies using product lists and product category ranking reports.
  • Responsible for regularly scheduled business reviews with key accounts.
  • Attend virtual and occasional in-person sales conferences and key meetings.
  • Attend and participate in semiannual book fairs in Ottawa, Montreal, and Halifax.
  • Provide responses and resolutions for retailer issues and concerns stemming from order placement through to delivery within a reasonable timeframe.
  • In-store support of HCC titles involving placement and monitoring of sell-through of key sellers and reorder processes.
  • Assist in setup and oversee the completion of our credit application and discount policies for new HCC accounts.
  • Assist retailers in using co-op for their marketing initiatives, profiling key titles and bestsellers through our approved marketing-based promotions.
  • Work with the Publicity department as a liaison to create successful independent bookstore events.
Qualifications:
  • High degree of written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable presenting in front of groups, one-on-one, and over the phone.
  • Excellent organizational abilities, ability to multi-task and identify priorities.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant sales experience. Book publishing courses or experience in the book industry is an asset. 
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is a requirement.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and basic computer skills, especially Microsoft Office programs (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

Working conditions

Home office and use of vehicle required.

Various meetings and customer visits will involve travel by car, train, or plane in North America.

 

Physical requirements 

No specific physical working conditions required – some lifting and transporting of product to retailer events or home office.
