Provides underwriting innovation expertise and support to USIL and AURA Tech as part of the Underwriting Innovation Team. Interprets sources of information and understands the requirements of underwriting programs, then develops and maintains severity scores and underwriting rules based on this information. Works closely with RGA peers and with client companies to ensure business goals are met.
Serve as the primary resource for underwriting expertise and support while participating in research and development of new Digital Health Data (DHD) programs, pilots and ventures.
Underwriting SME for the DHD team interpreting underwriting guidelines and developing severity scores as they pertain to code sets. (Examples include ICD, PCS, HCPS, CPT, SnoMed, RxNorm, NDC, etc)
Responsible for researching, assigning and enhancing Rx Severities for RGA’s Rx Scoring system (the most developed part of RGA’s DHD services).
Expand scoring systems to include attributes, multi-variate and co-morbid as needed.
Work with USIL actuarial and GRD staff as the underwriting SME to develop and implement predictive models.
Perform or participate in client studies as needed to gain feedback, monitor success and identify and implement needed changes or enhancements.
Serve as the primary underwriting resource for clients on all US DHD initiatives.
Underwriting SME for projects involving underwriting innovation (Examples involve developing underwriting programs for Insurtech companies, exporting of US individual life underwriting offerings to other RGA lines of business or other countries, etc.)
Underwriting SME for inclusion of behavioral economics within underwriting programs
Provide underwriting expertise and support for USIL research and development of new underwriting programs and ventures.
Participate in underwriting studies as requested by USIL
Monitor existing e-underwriting programs, implementing enhancements as needed and providing client support.
Develop and continually refine RGA’s master rulesets using underwriting expertise.
Work closely with AURA project team and rules developers, providing underwriting direction and working to ensure that the underwriting approach agreed to works as designed and is in line with RGA’s underwriting philosophy.
Assist in documenting and tracking multiple versions of automated underwriting rules.
Provide guidance and mentoring to clients and colleagues regarding the rules development process and RGA’s underwriting philosophy and approach.
Work closely with the rest of UST to ensure that team goals are met.
Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
7+ years reinsurance underwriting experience or 9+ years direct underwriting experience
Preferred
BS/ BA Science or Business
ACS, ALU, FLMI, FALU or CLU accreditation or progress towards accreditation

Advanced ability to comprehend, analyze and apply vast amounts of medical and financial information quickly to making sound financial underwriting and risk assessments.
Advanced knowledge of insurance principles, underwriting policies and procedures and guidelines for dealing with risk analysis.
Advanced knowledge of medicine, law, accounting, finance as applied to the evaluation of life reinsurance risks and of life insurance risks.
Advanced knowledge of industry practices, trends and applications and the ability to communicate this knowledge to clients and apply it to meeting clients’ needs.
Ability to work well within a team environment and participate in department projects.
Advanced ability to foster a teamwork and customer service focused environment

Compensation Range
$101,685.00 - $151,435.00 Annual
Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
