The Opportunity 

The Vice President, Global Group Controller will lead the financial controllership and accounting function Iron Mountain globally.  The primary purpose of the role is to support the strategic product line growth and geographic expansion of the Business Units through organic development as well as acquisition and joint ventures.  This role is responsible to ensure accurate and timely management, statutory and supplemental financial reporting (on both a local and US GAAP reporting basis).  This role will lead and drive the strategic direction, vision and organizational model, as well as system and process design for the Business Units controllership and accounting organization, and lead transformational change that will allow the Business Units to scale for growth over time.  Through continuous improvement, this role will deliver world-class accounting and reporting processes, policies, and procedures that are best-in-class in terms of both quality and cost.  Additionally, this role will drive the design and operating effectiveness of the internal control environment for the Business Units.  The role will be instrumental in driving top-line revenue growth; cost savings; return on investment decisions related to capital investment and deployment; as well as acquisition and joint venture structuring; large, complex customer contract structuring; accounting guidance and business insights; finance and capital funding; and derivative structuring (e.g., power contracts and interest swaps, among others).  The role is responsible for recruiting, developing, leading, and managing a high-performing team structure that is focused on both the internal and external customer.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.  This role is responsible for (i) the Company’s global financial statement close and consolidation process, (ii) the accuracy, presentation and timely filing of all of the Company’s filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (the SEC), including the Company’s quarterly and annual financial statements on Form 10-Q and Form 10-K, respectively, as well as (iii) additional transactional filings resulting from capital markets activities initiated by the Company’s Tax and Treasury functions in order to advance the Company’s strategic objectives and internal management reporting which satisfies the needs of various internal and external stakeholders (including REIT Asset Test, Business Unit/Segment, Tax, Treasury, EFP&A, legal entity, etc.).

  • Technical Accounting and Accounting Center of Excellence:   Building and managing the Company’s global accounting Centers of Excellence, which will ensure consistent, as well as, the development of new policy positions and procedures for new and evolving business lines in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States (US GAAP). Also, support the country teams and central statutory reporting team in the interpretation of International Financial Reporting Standards for local GAAP (IFRS) purposes and maintain positions between US GAAP and IFRS.  Lead and drive the structuring and technical accounting conclusions as it relates to consolidation and joint ventures; large, complex customer contracts and derivative instruments; and financial and capital deployment (inclusive of acquisition and divestures).  

  • Global Audit and Statutory Audit Coordination:  Manage the global relationship with the Company’s primary auditor for group reporting and statutory auditors, including the ensuring the timely execution of the Company’s quarterly reviews and annual audits (including managing the Deloitte and other auditor global audit and statutory fees and approvals).  Provide the necessary documentation, support and insight and coordinate with other functional groups in this respect to  System Strategy and General Ledger Management:  Oversee the general ledger activities, ensuring proper accounting entries and reconciliations are completed in a timely manner. Lead and strategically develop the relationship with TCS as it relates to our outsource relationship

  • with the TATA group that provides support to approximately 36 of our 62 countries for record to analyze and procure to pay activities.  Additionally, build out roadmap for key financial accounting and reporting systems (One Stream and Oracle Cloud) and key integrations associated with operating and billing platforms.  

  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with the finance team to assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets and forecasts.  Providing analysis and review of the Company’s results of operations at the operating segment and enterprise levels, including supporting the preparation and review of various public disclosures of the Company’s results included in investor presentation and quarterly supplemental financial reporting and providing insightful, actionable input to the EFP&A, Investor Relations, Tax, Treasury and the Global Functional spend groups.

  • Digital Business Controllership:  Partner with the global Digital CFO and in a matrixed manner, manage, supervise and lead the Digital Controller and collaborate on strategic agenda to build out systems, process and organizational construct to support the planned growth in this business, in particular, focused on revenue and internal use labor and capital deployment.     

  • Compliance and Controls: Ensure adherence to internal controls and compliance with regulatory requirements, including tax laws and industry standards.  Maintain, enhance and improve our global system of internal controls (both within the Sox and Sox-lite programs).  

  • Team Leadership: Mentor and supervise accounting staff, fostering professional development; diversity, equity and inclusion; a high performance culture; and a collaborative and innovative mindset.

  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process enhancements and efficiencies within the accounting functions, as well as, drive improvements across other key business process cycles (inclusive of, revenue, procurement – opex and capex, payroll, benefits and equity based plans, real estate, tax – indirect, treasury, and customer contract costs (commission and intake).   

  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with various departments to provide financial insights and support strategic initiatives.
