Job Overview
As the R&D Product Development Engineer – Optical System Architect (SA), you will be focused on pluggable optical transceivers, near/co-package optical transceivers, optical interconnects for advanced AI/HPC environment, compute, storage, and networking hardware markets. You will apply your technical expertise and industry knowledge to influence the BU strategy and contribute to key product/technology decisions. You will collaborate closely with the Business Development and Strategy teams on M&A scenarios and projects, performing technical evaluations and assessing how the technology will intersect with future product/technology trends and the needs of our customers and industry. This role reports to the Director leading the broader SA organization.
Short Description
- Use technical knowledge, capability, and contacts to guide the BU in establishing an optical solutions strategy. Provide the right balance of business acumen, market intelligence, and optical engineering to establish D&D optical solutions to upcoming industry/customer technical needs.
- Provide optical technical leadership to the BU.
- Have and build strong industry relationships with key senior architects at TE’s most important customers and standard organizations. Participate in and be recognized by key technical forums. MUST be recognized as a creditable optical market professional.
- Apply market knowledge to contribute to the evergreen BU strategy and influence the BU on product/technology decisions.
- Identify the risks in strategy execution and express tradeoffs in an actionable way, driving toward desired outcomes.
- Collaborate closely with the Business Development and Strategy teams on M&A scenarios and projects. Perform technical evaluations and assess how the technology will intersect with future product/technology trends and the needs of our customers and industry.
- Identify long-term market and technology trends making the organization aware of the competitive landscape, growth areas, and adjacencies, identifying both opportunities and risks. Develop actionable strategies within the BU to intersect these key trends.
- Collaborate internally to align market trends and roadmaps by product family and application.
- Collaborate with customers to provide end-to-end solutions.
What your background should look like:
- Bachelor’s degree in optical or electrical engineering.
- 15+ years’ experience in the optical transceiver market (supplier or specifier role)
- In-depth knowledge of the key technologies servicing the different optical interconnect distances inside a data center.
- Hands-on experience in the design and testing of optical transceivers and optical components. Silicon Photonics background HIGHLY desired.
- Experience in data center computing and/or networking industry system design and related technologies.
- In-depth knowledge of hardware and associated signaling environments.
- Technical expertise in high-speed optical engineering and design.
- In-depth knowledge of computing, networking, AI / ML, and storage architectures.
- Effectively able to build relationships with external customers and industry leaders as well as internally across all levels, disciplines, and geographies.
- Strategic-minded with a proven ability to translate industry and technical trends into meaningful strategies for the business.
- Strong collaboration and influencing skills, with a proven track record of forging excellent relationships across organizations and with senior management. Must be able to effectively work with people of all levels, cultures, and functional backgrounds.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills. A convincing communicator with compelling perspectives that drive engagement and excitement both up and down the organization with an ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrates sound judgment in working through complex technical issues with an ability to communicate actions and impact clearly to stakeholders including management, customers, and the technical community.
- Ability to spend 25%-50% of your time traveling domestically and internationally.

COMPENSATION
• Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $154,100 – $231,100 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
• Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
