Location:

Novi, Michigan.  Alternate locations include Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas; Peoria, Illinois or Des Moines, Iowa.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Resident Systems Engineer (RSE) is the connection between Stoneridge's Advanced Product Development (APD) and North American Commercial Vehicle (CV) and Off-Road Equipment (ORE) customers.  The RSE develops a relationship of collaboration with customers, built on understanding their needs, and provides solutions backed by SRI's APD or existing products.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build strong working relationships with North American Commercial Vehicle (CM) and Off-Road Equipment (ORE) customers that create future business opportunities and support ongoing projects and business.
  • Understand customer needs and act as Voice-of-the-Customer (VoC) to report current issues, opportunities and future needs.
  • Comply with EHS policies and procedures of the Company and while at customer locations and ensure that Safety is at the forefront of decisions and actions.
  • Acquire framework information such as volumes, start-of-production (SOP), lifetime, vehicle/equipment platforms, sales region(s), development and production sites etc.
  • Prepare use case, user story, epic, operational design domain (ODD), "what is success?", etc. on behalf of the customer.
  • Collaborate with SRI stakeholders to identify and evaluate technical solutions, project proposals and deliverables.
  • Actively participate in researching, calculating, designing, programming, prototyping and testing of solutions.
  • Define actions and timing such as field tests, validation plan, improvement plan etc.
  • Lead project planning, resource allocation/needs and scheduling.
  • Define, measure and track project metrics.
  • Lead regular reviews internally and with the customer.
  • Facilitate smooth exchange of information, e.g. 3D-data for packaging studies.
  • Deliver and retrieve parts such as samples and warranty parts and follow up.
  • Learn and stay abreast of development with SRI technologies such as camera, radar, ultrasonics, DVR, telematics, displays, switches, powertrain actuators, temperature and pressure sensors, valves, etc.
  • Apply continuous improvement methodologies (5-Why, 8D, DMAIC, etc.) to uncover opportunities for cost reduction, improved efficiency or increased satisfaction of internal or external customers.
  • Travel to customer and/or SRI locations, estimated at up to 50%, and primarily within North America.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science in technical field, e.g. engineering (system, mechanical, electrical, civil, aerospace, robotics, computer, medical) or science (agriculture, physics, computer).  May consider combination of work experience and military service in lieu of the technical degree.
  • At least three (3) years relevant work experience in the manufacturing industry, preferably automotive or agriculture.  Experience must include customer interface and working hands-on at the Company and customer locations. 
  • Nice to have: INCOSE A/C/SEP certification and/or PMP certification
  • Knowledgeable in automotive, trucks, trailers, construction, mining and/or agricultural equipment and driving assistance technologies and/or drivetrain (as described above).
  • Customer-facing project management/leadership experience for automotive advanced development and/or production programs
  • Good knowledge of automotive functional safety (ISO26262) and ASPICE standards
  • Experience working with requirements management tools (Polarion/DOORs NG)
  • Experience working across engineering disciplines to drive robust system solutions
  • Must be able to effectively manage assignments to ensure the right actions are completed on-time and with/under budget.
