Job description

Our aviation division is projected to grow sales by 25% annually over the next two years. To capitalize on this opportunity, we need a dedicated Global Sales Development Manager who will lead the charge in expanding our market share, building strategic customer relationships, and driving the sales team to meet ambitious growth targets. This role can be based from UK or United States.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead Sales Team: Develop, manage, and mentor the sales team, including key account managers and customer support representatives, ensuring they are equipped to meet and exceed the company’s sales growth objectives.
  • Business Growth Strategy: Design and execute comprehensive sales and business development strategies to drive growth in the Industrial, Aviation, Heavy Industrial, and Defense sectors. Identify new business opportunities, set performance benchmarks, and ensure the company’s market expansion.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain long-term relationships with key clients such as Honeywell, Rolls Royce, MTU, TCT, Aero Alliance, and others. Regularly engage with customers through site visits, strategic planning sessions, and consistent communication to ensure satisfaction and retention.
  • Account Development: Collaborate closely with key account managers to develop tailored solutions that align with specific customer needs. Oversee negotiations, proposal development, and pricing strategies to ensure profitability while delivering customer satisfaction. Sales Process Management: Own the end-to-end sales process, from prospecting to closing. Ensure the sales team adheres to structured processes for outreach, quoting, negotiating, and contract finalization.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with operations and customer support teams to ensure alignment between service delivery and customer expectations. Drive continuous improvement in customer satisfaction through effective problem-solving and service enhancements.
  • Market and Competitive Analysis: Monitor and report on market trends, competitor activities, and the overall business climate. Use insights to refine and adjust sales strategies as necessary to stay competitive.
  • CRM and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of sales activities and customer interactions in the CRM system. Analyze data to track sales performance and provide actionable insights for continuous improvement.
  • Travel & Representation: You will represent the company at industry trade shows and events. You will also travel globally (up to 50-70%) to engage with key clients, manage international accounts, and support global growth initiatives.
  • Budget & Financial Management: Manage budgets for sales activities, ensuring responsible allocation of resources, particularly for customer engagements, entertainment, and travel.

Required Skills / Knowledge

  • Proven track record in leading a sales team within the aerospace, defense, or power generation industries.
  • Strong technical knowledge of steam turbines, airplane engines, and overhaul services.
  • Expertise in creating and implementing effective sales strategies that drive substantial business growth.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain strong customer relationships with an extensive network in the aerospace and industrial sectors.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, focusing on closing high-value deals and ensuring customer loyalty.
  • Strong organizational and leadership capabilities, including experience managing remote and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM systems.

Experience

  • At least ten years of experience in sales, business development, or account management, with at least five years in a leadership role.
  • Prior experience in the aerospace, defense, or power generation industries is highly desirable.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as Engineering, Business, or equivalent industry experience. Advanced degrees (MBA) are a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Travel:
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently, both domestically and internationally, especially to regions such as the Western Hemisphere, South Asia, and Europe. This may involve long-haul flights, time zone adjustments, and extended stays. Mobility:
  • Capability to move around large customer sites, such as airports, MRO facilities, or trade show venues. This may involve walking, standing for extended periods, and occasional lifting or carrying of promotional materials or equipment (up to 25 lbs). Extended Working Hours:
  • Flexibility to work extended or irregular hours to accommodate global clients in different time zones, including early mornings or late evenings for calls and meetings. Visual & Auditory Requirements:
  • Good visual and auditory acuity for presentations, reading technical documents, and engaging in detailed discussions with clients and internal teams, both in person and virtually. Manual Dexterity:
  • Ability to use office equipment such as computers, phones, and projectors and the occasional setup of booth materials for trade shows or industry events.
