Position Summary

The Children’s Oncology Group (COG), a National Cancer Institute supported clinical trials group, is the world’s largest organization devoted exclusively to childhood and adolescent cancer research. The COG unites more than 10,000 experts in childhood cancer at more than 200 leading children’s hospitals, universities, and cancer centers across North America, Australia, and New Zealand in the fight against childhood cancer. Our goal is to cure all children and adolescents with cancer, reduce the short and long-term complications of cancer treatments, and determine the causes and find ways to prevent childhood cancer.

The Research Operations Analyst will be part of the Grants Administration Office (GAO) responsible for supporting various research administrative duties surrounding applications for funding, including preparing administrative and financial sections on the grant applications and coordinating with investigators on budget development to ensure timely submission, as well as associated pre- and post-award requests. They will collaborate with the scientific, administrative, and study committees to ensure successful conduct of COG research. The position reports directly to the Manager of Grants Administration.

This is a full-time remote position. Full salary range for this position: $68,581 to $99,425 per year. The typical hiring range for this position is from $68,581 (minimum) to $84,003 (midpoint), based on 100% FTE. The starting salary is determined based on the candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, as well as budget availability.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Grants Management: Pre and post-award duties, including coordinating proposal development with Principal Investigators (PIs) and internal offices. Monitor grant expenditures, budgets, and financial reports to ensure alignment with grant terms and conditions
  • Application Preparation: Prepare budgets, justifications, biosketches, and other proposal components
  • Financial Management: Develop and monitor grant budgets, including preparing budget justifications and monitoring spending ensuring accuracy and compliance with sponsor requirements and institutional policies. Follow up on outstanding payments
  • Compliance and Reporting: Prepare progress reports, financial reports, and other documentation required by funding agencies
  • Contract Management: Assist with contract workflow for new agreements, and amendments for the department
  • Administrative: Provide administrative support to the GAO department. Manage a shared inbox, scheduling ad hoc meetings, project set up for new activities, maintain and organize folders
  • Report Generation: Prepare various reports for the department in collaboration with several stakeholders
  • Coordination: Collaborate with relevant departments and fiscal sponsors to facilitate sub-award work orders, addressing inquiries and ensuring alignment with grant requirements
  • Travel: Attend bi-annual group meetings and other business-related meetings as necessary
  • Additional Duties: Perform other assigned duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in business administration or administrative analysis, including budgets, grant accounting, or personnel support
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration, Accounting, Finance, Business or related degree, or substitute with four additional years of related experience

Other Qualifications

  • 2+ years’ experience in research administration
  • Experience in or knowledge of non-profit accounting, especially managing funds and grants, is preferred
  • Ability to gather, organize, and analyze financial data with minimal supervision is preferred
  • Experience providing department / leader support
  • Strong reasoning and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and common desktop/web applications
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks with short often competing deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Works well in a team and builds positive relationships with others
  • Creative, resourceful, innovative, reliable, trustworthy, and discerning
