Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed mortgage credit assessments, utilizing automated underwriting systems to evaluate borrowers' capacity to repay mortgage loans.
• Review and authenticate income, asset, credit, title, value, and fraud reports.
• Ensure seamless documentation of essential property information within our systems.
• Assess title documentation and purchase agreements as necessary.
• Apply quality control methodologies to ensure compliance and accuracy in underwriting processes.
• Order and evaluate Mortgage Insurance in accordance with applicable loan programs.
• Thoroughly review loan submissions for approval or conditional approval, considering alternatives before opting for suspense or denial.
• Aid in resolving post-closing suspense challenges to ensure efficient operations.
• Analyze complex income tax returns to determine qualifying income.
• Undertake additional tasks as required.
  
  

Required Skills

• At least 5 years of recent underwriting experience within the mortgage sector is essential.
• FHA DE-VA LAPP/SAR certification is preferred.
• Familiarity with state housing programs is advantageous.
• Proficiency in automated underwriting systems (AUS) such as DU, LPA, and GUS.
• In-depth knowledge of loan products, services, and regulatory policies is critical.
• Strong comprehension of state and federal regulations, including HMDA, Regulation Z, Regulation B, and guidelines for FHLMC, FNMA, USDA, VA, and FHA.
• Knowledge of Encompass LOS is beneficial.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of recent underwriting experience in the mortgage industry is mandatory.
• Preferred certification in FHA DE-VA LAPP/SAR.
