Job Overview

As a Commercial Property & Casualty (P&C) Underwriter, you will be tasked with evaluating and placing new business accounts in line with our established guidelines and underwriting philosophies. You will collaborate closely with retail agents and carrier underwriters to ensure profitability and integrity in the placement process. We value self-motivation and resourcefulness, encouraging effective prioritization and management of multiple tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess New Business Accounts: Evaluate submissions from retail agents, including written applications and phone interactions, to determine acceptability in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Rate and Quote Accounts: Utilize internal systems and carrier rating engines to accurately assess and quote new business accounts.
  • Collaborate with Underwriters: Work in tandem with carrier underwriters to ascertain pricing, coverage, and risk acceptability while gathering requisite information.
  • Bind New Business: Oversee the binding of new accounts and provide all necessary documentation for timely policy issuance.
  • Manage Endorsements: Rate and communicate endorsement requests from retail agents regarding existing accounts.
  • Track Applications and Payments: Assist in monitoring the required applications and payments for placed business.
  • Address Inspection Recommendations: Review and address inspection recommendations and discrepancies.
  • Communicate Effectively: Maintain clear and professional communication with both internal and external stakeholders to uphold our standards of excellence.
  • Support Retail Agents: Provide assistance to agents with inquiries during the quoting process and post-placement.
  • Foster Professional Relationships: Build and sustain positive relationships with internal staff, retail agents, and company underwriters through various channels.
  • Participate in Team Meetings: Engage actively in weekly staff meetings and online communication as necessary.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Undertake additional work-related responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; a college degree is preferred.
  • Experience in E&S underwriting is advantageous.
  • Insurance license is preferred or a willingness to acquire one.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with email and Microsoft Office, along with the capacity to learn proprietary programs and partner systems.
