Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven Mortgage Underwriter to join our dynamic team in a fully remote capacity. This full-time role presents a remarkable opportunity for professionals eager to contribute significantly to the mortgage lending sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and assess residential mortgage loan applications to determine eligibility for approval or denial.
• Analyze financial statements, credit histories, appraisals, title reports, and associated documentation.
• Validate income and employment details and evaluate the borrower’s collateral and assets.
• Ensure adherence to Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, and USDA guidelines based on automated findings.
• Document decision rationale for loan approval or denial within the loan file.
• Effectively communicate loan decisions to internal lenders and processors.
• Undertake additional duties as required, with potential for occasional in-office engagement based on company needs (with prior notice).
  
  

Required Skills

• Over 5 years of recent experience in retail residential mortgage underwriting (FHA, VA, USDA, and Conventional), demonstrating strong knowledge of agency guidelines.
• Familiarity with USDA guidelines is essential.
• Relevant certifications such as DE, SAR, and LAPP are advantageous.
• Comprehensive understanding of ATR/QM requirements.
• Proficiency in Encompass LOS is preferred.
• Strong competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• High integrity and a robust work ethic are critical.
• Knowledge of compliance and disclosure mandates, as well as expertise in closing, post-closing, and quality control processes.
