$176,000.00 - $228,000.00
What’s the role?
We are looking for a Director, Internal Communication to join our Communications & Community team in Brooklyn. This person will lead the team that communicates everything from company strategy, corporate developments, customer voices, and key programs and launches to Etsy’s globally distributed employee base. You have the opportunity to excite and engage employees in new ways so that they are motivated to bring their best to work and drive company performance. This high-visibility role requires strong executive presence, judgment, and writing skills.
To be successful in this role, the Director, Internal Communications will create new and compelling ways to deliver information to and engage our employees across various channels and mediums. The leader will have an in-depth understanding of communications and will be able to develop strategies and programs that deliver measurable results.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Vice President, Communications & Community. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Brooklyn Office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. The Communications & Community team at Etsy engages with all of our internal and external stakeholders. Through storytelling, media relations, marketing programs, and community programming, we elevate our sellers and their unique items. Our goal is to make people love shopping on, selling on, working at, or doing business with Etsy. This team is part of the larger Brand Marketing & Communications function within the Marketing org.
What does the day-to-day look like?
Lead communications initiatives that engage a global, company-wide audience, both live and async.
Partner with teams across the company to help ensure their communications to broad employee audiences are clear, effective, and consistent with our overall communication strategy and messaging.
Advise executive and senior leadership on how to effectively lead and communicate change to their teams, including managing required crisis responses as they arise.
Drive company-wide communications and meetings as well as other high-stakes addresses from leadership to employees.
Cultivate a deep understanding of our strategic objectives, and ensure our employees feel that their work is aligned to these efforts
Create new programs and communications strategies that encourage employees to celebrate and take pride in new launches, programs, milestones, and more – and inspire them to act as our brand advocates in the world.
Partner with our community team to enable Etsy employees to feel a greater connection to our seller base. Establish moments for seller in-office/person connection or other surprise-and-delight moments.
Partner with communications and marketing teams to ensure employees are key stakeholders in go-to-market plans and that we speak with one voice across internal and external audiences.
Introduce innovative new tools and programs that can help create moments of Admin connection at scale
Curate, edit and distribute our weekly, company-wide newsletter, This Weeksy.
Develop, review, edit and approve high-stakes company-wide communications, including emails, presentations, audio, video, Slack messages and more.
Support the management of our communications calendar and cadence, working with teams to pace out their communications and events to improve uptake and engagement.
Develop and drive creative ways to measure the effectiveness of Etsy’s internal communications channels, formats and platforms to help improve their impact over time.
Regularly advise leaders in charge of internal comms at our subsidiary companies.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
12+ years of professional experience in roles with a heavy focus on internal communications and/or corporate communications.
Experience as a skilled writer, tailoring your style and tone based on the message, medium, and audience. People look to you for help figuring out right way to say something sensitive.
Excellent judgment with the ability to represent the team with a wide variety of internal partners, including senior leaders.
Experience with any or all of event production, video editing, and graphic design.
You are organized, able to prioritize, and can balance multiple projects with outstanding follow through
Strength in perception of the environment around you, striking a balance between efficiency, consistency and leading change.
Exceptional people manager adept at building a high-performing culture through clear feedback and expectations, and creating opportunities for team members to innovate
A plus: Experience with a dual-sided marketplace or have helped small business grow
