Job description

Voice Network Engineer

Great Plains Communications is looking for an experienced Voice Network Engineer to join our growing team.  This is a remote position located in either NE, CO or IN.

This position will research, test, configure, provision and maintain the equipment required for GPC’s voice networks.  Will oversee network equipment installations, will serve as a department project manager, and perform problem management for the transport networks.  Will provide support to Voice Engineering team and other GPC personnel.

¨     Researches, orders, configures, tests, installs, maintains, and monitors the voice network and its equipment, including local host, remove, tandem, ESA and VoIP services.

¨     Provides 24 x 7 on-call support for voice-related issues.

¨     Performs system upgrades and other software updates on voice equipment.

¨     Serves as switch project lead on local exchange cutovers.

¨     Works with vender TAC in troubleshooting issues with systems.

¨     Interacts with various hardware, software, and communication services venders to plan product upgrades, resolve problems, and evaluate new products or service offerings.

¨     Leads designing and turn-up processes of various services on the network.

¨     Ensures current records and backups are completed on all switching systems.

¨     Ensures NOC is notified of all schedule maintenance on the voice and access network.

¨     Researches, orders, configures, tests, installs, maintains, and monitors the equipment required to provide local and toll voice services.

¨     Performs complex switch translations as needed on Ribbon C15 and Metaswitch class 5 switches. 

¨     Develops an Engineering project plan for any updates, cutovers, or installs in the network.

¨     Works closely with CO and OSP project managers on cutovers.

¨     Advises and communicates with GPC Carrier and Wholesale department on carrier FOC requests and timelines.

¨     Ensures switch CDR collection is functioning and records searchable within NAMS system.

¨     Ensures switch SS7/Sigtran collectors are functioning and records searchable within NAMS system.

¨     Provides the design and support necessary to maintain a minimum network availability or 99.5% of the scheduled up-time.

¨     Designs circuit plans and originates service orders and work orders from various Word docs and ASR’s.

¨     Ensures circuit design is completed in NISC system with accurate information and diagrams.

¨     Develops an Engineering project plan for any updates, cutovers, or installs in the network.

¨     Works with engineering teams to ensure new systems are designed and turned up per assigned timelines.

¨     Advises and communicates with Plant Circuits department on carrier FOC requests.

¨     Keeps levelheaded during outages and develops plans to restore services in catastrophic situations.

¨     Must be amiable and approachable to external customers, co-workers, and vendors.

¨     Must be willing to be “on call” and work “after hours” as needed.

¨     Travels and attends out of state meetings as needed.

¨     Performs other related duties as assigned by management

 

 

EDUCATION DESIRED
