Job Overview

Join a premier renewable energy firm dedicated to pioneering innovative utility-scale energy storage solutions. With robust backing from private equity, this organization is leading the charge in the renewable energy landscape, having successfully developed over 9GW of projects in a remarkably short timeframe and is currently on a trajectory of rapid growth.

As a Renewables Real Estate Attorney, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of renewable infrastructure. Your keen commercial insight and comprehensive understanding of the legal aspects surrounding renewable energy real estate transactions will be critical as you autonomously manage legal matters related to renewables origination, land acquisition, and development transactions. You will collaborate with diverse teams, including Project Development, Finance, EPC, O&M, and Transmission & Interconnection, on all real estate and land development legal issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the subject matter expert in lease negotiations, land options, purchase agreements, easements, and site control agreements for utility-scale renewable projects (solar, wind, energy storage) across ISOs/RTOs nationwide.
  • Draft, revise, and negotiate all legal land agreements pertinent to utility-scale renewable projects.
  • Assist the Real Estate team with advanced title, survey, and mineral due diligence processes, including researching land use requirements and restrictions.
  • Supervise the financial closing of renewable land development purchase and lease transactions.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders (including outside counsel) involved in the land acquisition process and related project financing legal matters.

Required Skills

  • Strong commercial acumen in renewable energy real estate transactions.
  • Expertise in lease negotiations, land options, purchase agreements, and easements.
  • Proficient in drafting, modifying, and negotiating legal land agreements.
  • High-level title, survey, and mineral due diligence knowledge.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with complex commercial real estate transactions.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of legal experience focusing on large infrastructure land development transactions, preferably as a licensed attorney specializing in grid-connected utility-scale renewable development.
  • Solid experience with land title issues, mineral rights, and project development permitting processes related to real estate land acquisition strategies.
  • Proven capability to draft and review various real estate documents, including purchase/sale agreements, lease terms, option agreements, easements, licenses, and covenants.
  • Strong background in land negotiations and complex commercial real estate transactions.
  • Expertise in site leases, purchase options, land permitting, and site control initiatives.
  • Familiarity with real estate-related financial closings and intricate M&A transactions.
