Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled legal professional to join our dynamic team as a Renewables Real Estate Attorney specializing in Energy Storage. This remote position offers an exciting opportunity to engage with a leading renewable energy organization renowned for its innovative approach to developing utility-scale energy storage projects, boasting an impressive portfolio exceeding 9GW. Your legal acumen will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission of enhancing sustainable energy solutions for the grid.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a subject matter authority in lease negotiations, land options, purchase agreements, and easements/entitlements for utility-scale renewable initiatives, including solar, wind, and energy storage.
  • Draft, amend, and negotiate all legal agreements pertinent to land for utility-scale renewable projects.
  • Collaborate with the Real Estate team to conduct comprehensive title, survey, and mineral due diligence, including research on land use regulations and restrictions.
  • Oversee the financial closing process for land development transactions related to renewable projects.
  • Interface with both internal and external stakeholders involved in land acquisition and financing legal matters.

Required Skills

  • Expertise in negotiating leases, land options, purchase agreements, and easements relevant to utility-scale renewable projects.
  • Proficiency in drafting and reviewing legal documentation related to real estate.
  • Strong research capabilities to conduct title, survey, and mineral due diligence.
  • Demonstrated capability to manage financial closing processes for land development deals.
  • Effective collaboration skills for engaging with stakeholders in land acquisition and project financing.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years of legal experience in large-scale infrastructure land development transactions, preferably as a licensed attorney in a renewable-focused organization; experience at a reputable law firm is highly valued.
  • Solid understanding of land title issues, mineral rights, and project development permitting processes.
  • Proven track record in drafting and reviewing real estate contracts, such as purchase/sales agreements, leases, easements, and covenants.
  • A strong negotiation background within the realm of commercial real estate transactions.
  • Familiarity with the lifecycle of utility-scale renewables, including interconnection and permitting processes, is advantageous.
