Accessibility SME

Our ideal candidate is passionate about accessibility!
As part of the ADA Strategy & Experience team, within the Digital Accessibility Office, you'll be responsible for making sure our external customer-facing websites and applications are universally accessible.
You'll work closely as an integrated team member with designers, UX writers, developers, business, and project managers ensuring everything from layout to production ready content meets our digital accessibility standards.
During the design phase, you will review, make recommendations, and provide subject matter expertise to create clean accessible layouts. You will be responsible for ensuring all aspects of the design, from color to components, align with our standards.
Then, during the development phase, you will work closely with the team by reviewing each facet of the digital asset, giving subject matter expert guidance, and ensuring adherence to WCAG 2.2 AA guidelines.
By bringing a wealth of accessibility knowledge to your team you will holistically upskill and instill a passion in your team members for accessibility in order to provide stellar quality experiences to our users.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Reporting to the Director of Web Accessibility, you will support the implementation and continuous improvement of accessibility by collaborating and conducting routine reviews throughout the lifecycle to ensure adherence to our accessibility standards, guidelines, and regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with designers, UX writing, and developers to brainstorm and proactively advise the team during the conception phase regarding accessibility and best practice usability offering innovative alternative solutions when needed.
  • Provide accessibility analysis, consultation, and coaching to your team members.
  • Visually identify accessibility issues in designs, layouts, and wireframes to ensure clean designs are delivered to development.
  • Act as a go-between to ensure accessible visuals and functionality are produced as design moves to development.
  • Advise development on accessible implementations including programmatic code examples and the inclusion of ARIA.
  • Day-to-day iterative testing of pages and components against the internal test suite, during the design and development lifecycle, to ensure the product is defect free prior to release.
  • On-going delivery of test results to your team then participate in follow-up discussions to remediate defects prior to launch.
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility policies and regulations (WCAG 2.2 AA, ADA, and Prudential specific requirements) and communicate these in common language to your team at all levels.
  • Ability to employ automated and manual methods of testing for accessibility and originate accessibility reports to ensure issues are documented, communicated, and remediated on time.
  • Maintain and grow subject matter expertise in the accessibility field.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Extensive understanding of WCAG 2.2 AA, WAI-ARIA, and ADA
  • Experience with assistive technologies (JAWS, NVDA, keyboard, etc.)
  • Experience with Adobe XD and Figma
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JAVA, and JavaScript
  • CPACC, WAS, ADS, CPWA, Trusted Tester Certification a plus
  • Great communicator with the ability to build relationships between team members
  • Highly motivated, detail oriented, self-starter with problem-solving skills
