Job Description Summary:
UCAR is excited to announce the job opening for the Facilities Painter.

This position is responsible for performing and/or assisting others in a wide range of skilled tasks required to maintain UCAR|NCAR facilities interior, exterior finishes. Commercial and semi-industrial skill requirements include: safety compliance, masking, mixing, patching, caulking, and painting experience using brushes, rollers, and/or spraying equipment. Applicants must be proficient in the use and application of a variety of finishing products such as latex, oil-base, and epoxies. All facilities maintenance personnel are expected to participate in seasonal snow removal activities as needed.

What You Will Do

Here is a brief outline of what one would expect to be responsible for in this role.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Painter Duties

  • Patching and painting commercial interior and exterior walls, floors, ceilings, furniture, equipment, features, and other ancillary items using: brush, roller, or spraying techniques.

  • Mask and protect finished surfaces from wet paint and overspray as necessary.

  • Match and apply smooth or textured finishes.

  • Wet/Dry Sandblasting or power wash surface preparation as required.  

  • Set up and take down scaffolding as required. 

  • Operate personnel lifts and/or bosen chairs in hard-to-reach areas as required.

  • Maintain paint and other finish standards using a software database.

  • Maintain paint and finish supplies in multiple facility storage areas.

  • Maintain all painting equipment in optimal working order.

  • Maintain spray booth equipment and replace filters as needed. 

  • Transport materials and supplies via company vehicle as needed

  • Materials handling.

Minor Carpentry Duties 

  • Drywall installation, finishing, and patching.

  • Vinyl Composite flooring and cove base installation.

  • Tenant finish, remodel, and blemish repair - floors, walls, ceilings, fixtures, cabinetry.

  • Minor office furniture installation and repairs - freestanding and modular.

  • Remove and reinstall office furniture and accessories as needed to access areas requiring paint or other finishes.

  • Materials handling.

Snow removal assistance - Seasonal

  • Maintain availability for rotational on-call duty during snow events requiring snow removal  (1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift work may apply).

  • Operate and maintain snow removal equipment (Training provisioned by UCAR).

  • Train and maintain safety certification for snowplows, snow blowers, sanders, skid loaders, sweepers, etc. (Training provisioned by UCAR).

  • Shovel snow and spread de-icer.

  • Materials handling.

Perform general administrative, safety, and housekeeping duties

  • Participate in online or live attendance safety training and skills training.

  • Participate in equipment operator training as needed.

  • Record hours worked, work performed, materials used, problems found, in Facilities Operations Management application (Training provisioned by UCAR).

  • Follow all UCAR policies and procedures.

  • Maintain a safe, neat and orderly work area at all times.

  • Maintain and safeguard all UCAR assigned tools and equipment.

Who We’d Love to Join Our Team

Education & Experience:

REQUIRED

  • High School Graduate.

  • A minimum of 2 years experience in the commercial painting trade.

  • A minimum of 2 years experience in drywall finish and repair.

  • Possession of a valid Colorado Driver’s license and a driving record compliant with UCAR’s liability insurance requirements.

DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or the ability to obtain a CDL within four (4) months of hire date (if requested).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Required/Desired):

REQUIRED

  • Proficient skill and knowledge in commercial painting techniques.

  • Skill and experience using hand tools, power tools, ladders, personal protective equipment, and other tools and equipment common in facilities maintenance work.

  • Ability to work in a safe manner and produce craftsman-like results.

  • Demonstrated skill in understanding and acting on verbal and written instructions. 

  • Able to carry sixty (60) lbs. twenty (20) feet.

  • Ability to erect and work on scaffolds and climb ladders up to forty (40) feet.

  • Ability to work on-call during snow fall events (May include shift work).

  • Willingness and ability to perform shift work to respond to after-hours emergency call-in, to work with other crafts and to work in environments outside of normal duties as needed.

  • Clearly and concisely communicate information, written or orally, to individuals or groups.

  • Listen and respond appropriately to individuals or groups.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of UCAR safety policies, procedures, and training content to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with UCAR staff, by listening, understanding, and courteously responding to reasonable requests.

  • Respond to work requests promptly and attentively within designated timelines and perform work with as little disruption to the workplace as possible.
