Position Overview

We are currently seeking a dedicated Multi-Family Investment Loan Associate Underwriter to become a vital part of our Investment Loan Division. In this critical role, you will play a significant part in assessing risk and evaluating the overall creditworthiness of borrowers. Your expertise in conducting comprehensive underwriting will be essential for determining asset profitability and sustainability while preparing detailed credit summaries for commercial multi-family applications. Your contributions will directly influence the identification of strengths and potential risks, enabling informed credit decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly review and analyze complex loan scenarios to evaluate transaction feasibility.
  • Identify potential risks and propose effective mitigation strategies.
  • Assess creditworthiness through income flow analysis and rent roll evaluations to facilitate loan approvals.
  • Proactively analyze operating performance to identify potential issues.
  • Review and interpret environmental and feasibility reports.
  • Manage a portfolio of new loan submissions, providing recommendations for approval or discussing rejection reasons with the Director of Credit.
  • Handle file escalations from various departments.
  • Review and clear underwriting conditions while underwriting new loans as required.
  • Identify potential concerns regarding pipeline, underwriting, and system issues for management review.

Required Skills

  • Strong problem-solving capabilities and the ability to articulate challenges while devising solutions under pressure.
  • Extensive knowledge of state and federal lending regulations.
  • Familiarity with leverage ratios (LTV, As Is, LTC) and their interactions with DSCR, ROI, and NOI.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for effective interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong time management, prioritization, decision-making, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to excel within a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of recent underwriting experience.
  • Experience with Non-QM and ‘Alt-A’ mortgage loans.
  • A background in lending within private funds, private money, investment brokerage, or a conforming role is preferred.
