Must have a good mixture of operation technical background along with design and documentation skills. This is hands on with architecture as well.
Job description:
Senior Systems/Network Engineer AND/OR Solutions/Technical Architect (the titles are interchangeable at different companies, so don’t look at the titles)
Migrating legacy applications from old environment to new Greenfield environment
Authentication types (AD, LDAP, internal)
sly, it was LDAP; now it’s AD
Need someone to put together the detailed physical diagrams of entire environments
Very granular/detail level
Server Summary, product/licenses, floor plans, Implementation Strategy, rack layouts, cooling and power, ‘plug this service into this network port,’ Firewall ports/containers, physical connections; IP addressing, Design notes, Virtual Guest Summary, configuration settings
The Network team will provide the Network Diagrams (but this person should be able to understand the diagram)
The build team then takes the designs (very detailed blueprint)
15 office moves last year alone
design – encompasses the servers needed for a virtual network; Bill of Materials; could include all the A/V for all the offices; rack layouts;
Windows 2012 servers need to be moved from old environment to new Greenfield environment with Active Directory – if something is not set up properly, then what would need to be done to ensure AD is set up properly (build the design to move it to the greenfield environment)
Standard naming convention; standard networking equipment
Design Operations Review (a stage gate to pass before it gets to the Build team)
In the prescreen, this is what Chip/Jason walks them thru
who can get into the details
Currently have 4 architects; can probably keep 6 busy full-time;
1 specifically for the 2012 migration
