Job description

  • Contract: Six month fixed-term parental leave cover
  • Part time: 21 hours per week
  • Location: Flexible; National (remote, hybrid or working from one of our regional offices, or London (remote, or hybrid, or working from our London Clerkenwell office)
  • Salary: £26,855.58 FTE - £16,113.35 pro rata (National) / £29,793.18 FTE - £17,875.91 pro rata (London)
  • Flexible working hours: 8am ─ 4pm, 9am ─ 5pm, 10am ─ 6pm or in between (agreed with your manager)
  • Annual leave: 28 days holiday per year pro rata (plus bank holidays)

The Children’s Society has been helping children and young people in this country for over 140 years. We run local services that support children when they are at their most vulnerable and in desperate need of help. We’re there for children, every step of the way. This role sits within our Storytelling Knowledge Group within our Social Impact Domain which works to engage our audiences and inspire social change across society. As an experienced Story and Voice Specialist, your role will be to empower others to become storytellers, supporting them to be comfortable, confident and in control of sharing their experiences.

We are looking for a creative and empathetic listener to join our passionate, dynamic team who’s excited about participation. This role will embed and amplify the voice of young people across internal and external communications. Working closely with our colleagues in youth practice, youth voice, creative, fundraising, campaigns and others across the organisation, you will gather powerful and compelling stories from those with lived experience, using a trauma informed, person-centred approach.

In order to be successful in this role:

  • You have experience conducting sensitive trauma-informed interviews with young people and adults
  • You are comfortable writing long-form stories that focus on the storyteller leading the narrative in their own words.
  • You’ll be eager to amplify stories with our colleagues across the organisation, stewarding the content through campaigns, web and social content, and much more.
  • You’re plugged in to contemporary storytelling techniques and have an eye for a great narrative.
  • You'll have the ability to build relationships quickly and warmly to ensure trust.
