Job Description

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provides expertise in an assigned content area and maintains current knowledge in his/her field. A Senior Instructor takes proactive ownership in ongoing professional development. 

  • Offers thorough, comprehensive support, coaching, and guidance to a load of assigned students, and may include serving a comparatively larger load or complex profile of students based on demonstrated competency and capabilities, as well as serving those at-risk students who may particularly benefit from a partnership with the Senior Instructor. 

  • Offers support to new Instructors during initial new Instructor onboarding and new student onboarding to prepare their new teammates to meet or exceed student success goals. 

  • Provides peer coaching and training on instructional best practices. 

  • Responds with urgency to meet student needs and communicates professionally and respectfully with students and all other members of the WGU community. 

  • Offers proactive support and outreach to assigned and at-risk students. 

  • Uses technology-based teaching and communication platforms to aid students in the development of competencies. 

  • Leads change by innovating and piloting new technologies, products, and processes. 

  • Collaborates with other professionals both inside and outside of the university to promote a positive, student-obsessed atmosphere. 

  • Serves as a dedicated liaison to other key departments and stakeholders to increase efficiency and clear, consistent communication to benefit their team or college. 

  • Facilitates product and process training efforts within their team or college to increase core and product knowledge. 

  • Consistently exhibits WGU’s Leadership Principles. 

  • Conducts and coordinates peer observation and structured feedback to provide constructive criticism for growth and proliferate best practices across their team or college. 

  • Participates in strategic planning activities.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Contribute to scholarly presentations and publications within content area and discipline as applicable.

Leadership & Talent Management.

  • Serves as team or functional leader within applicable discipline or practice.

  • Serves as a source of advice, mentoring, and counsel within the team.

  • Supports team learning and quality initiatives and may lead training within the area of specialty.

  • Supports initiatives within the area of specialty.

  • Displays a positive attitude toward change and supports change management practices.

Job Qualifications:

  • Graduate Nursing MSN
  • RN licensure or single state license in state of residence (if non-compact State) with additional licenses in WA, TN and other states as required. Please upload your license(s) at the time of application.
  • 3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • 2 years highly successful practice, based on student outcomes, in the role area/practice.
  • Demonstrated subject matter expert in assigned content or practice area(s).
  • Demonstrated various online platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse learner profiles.
  • Ability to work a student-friendly schedule (evenings/weekends).
  • State and/or federal legislative requirements and/or college accreditation requirements may apply in order to maintain the necessary credentialing for this role. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Terminal Degree, in a related field and all applicable licenses or certifications. (not required)
  • Strong experience with distance education and distance learning students.
  • Experience with distance education and distance learning students.
  • Experience supporting graduate nursing programs.
  • Additional healthcare certifications

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Position & Application Details
