Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for the strategic support, oversight and tactical deployment of a team of fundraising staff who will provide resources and staffing focused on driving the organization’s goals of expanding into and activating new markets.

Through collaboration and coordination with national, divisional, and Chapter staff, this role provides expertise, leadership, and support to Chapters as they develop new committees, events, and potential chapter boards in new markets. In addition to serving as the team leader, they will also deploy to new markets to do development work.

This individual is a visionary, self-starter who is adept in aligning opportunities, maximizing resources, and inspiring others to engage in an organization’s mission. They have exceptional time management skills and can proficiently execute activities that support organizational strategies in assigned market areas.

Fundraising, Engagement & Volunteer Management- 75%

  • Partners with the Division AVPs and Fundraising Program National Directors to prioritize emerging markets, with a goal of impacting $1.5M in revenue across 7 markets in year one.
  • Provides direction and active leadership in new markets. Develops and executes plan to launch new fundraising events.
  • Execute strategic revenue plans to drive profitable, diversified, and sustainable year-over-year growth in the emerging market.
  • Assumes lead role in recruiting and managing leadership volunteers and committees, in assigned market
  • Collaborates and integrates effectively with chapter staff and builds local activation strategies that align with program standards and best practices across Fundraising Programs, Volunteer Engagement, and Community Engagement.
  • Develops a systematic approach for activating new markets, quickly assessing the areas of greatest opportunity, and executing accordingly.
  • Builds plans for sustainable revenue retention and growth and coordinates handoff to Chapter staff at the appropriate time.
  • Proactively communicates with the relevant Territory and Chapter staff, Division AVP, and Fundraising Program Partners.
  • Completes special projects as assigned.  

Awareness – 10%:

  • Support the promotion of mission engagement opportunities throughout the market in the areas of research, advocacy, and clinical trials
  • Collaborate with territory or chapter staff as needed on the engagement of mission-focused volunteer leadership – including Advocacy Team Chairs, Clinical Trial Education Volunteers, and Mission Information Volunteers – to advance the priorities of the organization.

Administration & Management – 15%:

  • Lead a team of two managers who will also be assigned to new market development.
  • Works with all applicable online tools with emphasis on tracking of all significant plans, opportunities, and activities in the Salesforce CRM database.
  • Represents the best interests, professionalism, and integrity of Breakthrough T1D in all activities and relationships through a unified message of Breakthrough T1D's mission and a commitment to organizational standards and leadership by personal example.
  • Ensure staff and volunteers adhere to organizational policies and procedures, including annual training and other compliance requirements.
  • Serves as an active member of the Field Operations & Resources leadership team, providing overall leadership, mentoring and operational direction to ensure cost-effective and efficient systems related to market development initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 7 years’ experience including with matrixed organization(s) in the disease space, preferably with a chapter-based, event heavy history.
  • 3 years’ experience in a supervisory capacity preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of both event and non-event fundraising activities.
  • Record of success in a fundraising role, with revenue responsibilities in excess of $1M; experience working directly or leading staff and volunteers teams particularly in large scale events (walk, gala, etc.) and major and corporate giving. Strong skills in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and on-going stewardship of donors and supporters
  • Self-starter while also being collaborative and an amazing team player.
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills; ability to work closely with teams and across functional areas; proactively communicate.
  • Ability to inspire, lead, and motivate a team; lead by example as a player-coach.
  • Ability to be an enthusiastic spokesperson/representative of Breakthrough T1D’s mission. High level of comfort communicating complex information (e.g., Breakthrough T1D research, goals, etc.) to a wide range of audiences so that they can understand and retain the content.
  • Effectively establish priorities and work in a fast-paced environment. Highly efficient in time management and can meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated competency when handling diversified assignments.
  • Team player with the ability to interface with all levels of staff, volunteers and vendors.
  • Superior active listening, observation, analytical, and problem recognition and solving skills.
  • Ability to work and make judgments independently and take initiative.
  • Significant computer literacy (MS Office and CRM systems).
  • College Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, as per the needs of the programs, Chapters and events.

Target salary: $85-100k base
