Reporting into the GCO, IME and Grants Office Team Lead Funding Officer leads implementation of the process for the full lifecycle of external grants and sponsorships.
The Medical Funding Officer will be responsible for all TA related grants and sponsorship requests in Lectrona.

As an internal expert in Medical Education and Sponsorships the incumbent uses their knowledge of the process, regulations, policies, etc. to assess grant and sponsorship applications, and acts as the point of contact for these requests.

The GMA Medical Funding Officer will be organizing GRC meetings, advising committee stakeholders and decisions as appropriate on compliance and process. 

The GMA Medical Funding Officer monitors and reports all grant and sponsorship activity in assigned TAs assessing audit data, compiling and delivering summary presentations, as well as contributing to to process changes, improving customer experience and assisting with training where needed.

This role will support the Medical Education and Sponsorships GCO on process management and projects work including the creation and coordination of project documentation, Platform support, training, etc.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements an annual medical education plan with TA personnel that achieves demonstrated educational results based on unmet needs in BI’s areas of interest.
  • Creates Call for Grant Applications (CGAs) from TA educational objectives, coordinate and obtain process required approvals.
  • Reviews and determines eligibility of grants and sponsorships, to support high quality activities with the largest potential for improving public health.
  • Routes all approval recommendations above determined thresholds to the relevant committee in a timely fashion.
  • Leads TA meetings to present grants and sponsorships recommended for approval and provide educational and external funding expertise.
  • Resolves and when necessary, triages medical grant applicant issues escalated.
  • As directed, provides a more detailed information to specific grant applicants in response to requests for additional information after grant denial.
  • Coordinates to attend and audit educational activities supported by Boehringer Ingelheim as required.
  • Analyzes all incoming data from education activity audits and use this information to score requesting organizations.
  • Supports the evolution of monitoring criteria in response to business needs and evolving external environment.
  • Examines internal department quality standards through TA reviews and support training and reinforcement of quality grant reviews.
  • Adheres to and implement all aspects of government and healthcare laws, Boehringer Ingelheim's Corporate Integrity Handbook, and relevant SOPs.
  • Demonstrates careful communication skills while interacting with external grant applicants with specific information needs related to grant decisions.
  • Ensures proper documentation, disposition, and follow-up on all reviewed and funded grant and sponsorship applications.
  • Monitors and assesses the quality and outcome measures of educational activities supported by Boehringer Ingelheim in assigned TA(s). 
  • Assists third party auditors with external compliance and consistency audits of department performance and provide summaries, and process change where needed.
  • Assists the Global Capability Owner, Medical Education and Sponsorships, in supporting the educational needs of the Boehringer Ingelheim Organization by ensuring the development of content and delivery of training presentations.
Requirements

 

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree required; Advanced science/clinical degree (PharmD, M.D., DNP, DO, Ph.D., Master’s) preferred.
  • Five (5) years professional experience in a scientific, clinical, and/or medical space, including: three-plus (3+) years of prior Medical Affairs, i.e medical education, and/or medical communication or related pharmaceutical industry experience.
  • Related pharmaceutical experience can include agency, FDA, or academic roles working in partnership with pharmaceutical companies/activities
  • Experience in Medical Education role in agency or pharmaceutical industry, preferred.
  • Ability to negotiate and influence across a matrix & cross-functional organization.
  • Language: Fluency in oral and written English; further language skills would be an asset.
  • Strong project and process management skills, experience leading project teams and developing business cases, plans, scope definition and presentations.
  • Operational experience in medical business processes and activities.
  • Experience in change management, including communications, training and support, network management.
  • Experienced or at least familiar with agile project. methodology

  • Eligibility Requirements:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
Desired Skills, Experience and Abilities
