Position Specification
Oversee the process to identify, protect and nurture potential acquisition targets that fit the ideal profile. Growth of the portfolio is the key focus. Establish, build trust and maintain long-term engagement with decision makers of target companies. Prepare the key decision makers for the acquisition process. Coordinate conversations, trips and actions in conjunction with the Portfolio CEO.
Major accountabilities are summarized as follows:
Advance M&A business development process from lead to LOI
Ensure lead growth and protection of current leads
Relationship management and nurturing acquisition targets
Accuracy and timeliness of data
Oversee the business development process and the team

The ideal candidate will be an initiative-taking, dedicated, focused, and dynamic individual with solid leadership, and strategy skills with a knowledge of the software industry. This position requires a confident, innovative, business-minded visionary with business acumen and political savvy who can listen to ideas and formulate and execute plans accordingly. Having a ‘roll your sleeves up’ ethos with a strong analytical bias is definitely advantageous to be successful in this role.
Job Responsibilities:
Lead Generation & Target Management
Ensure the team develops, maintains and cultivates an overall target list of prospects based on ideal profile. Maintain ratings for each target based on size, revenue, and strategic fit
Identify additional vertical market software niches
Aptitude and passion for outside sales, lead generation and mining of new business opportunities
Demonstrated success in cold calling, prospecting and sales processes
Work with current businesses to determine needs for partnerships/tuck-in business
Identify decision-makers and influencers in the selling process
Relationship Management & Nurturing
Stay top-of-mind with prospects by offering strategic advice
Classify seller motivation as and determine action plan to progress stage to sell
Develop a follow-up cadence with the team (i.e., monthly check-ins, value-driven updates)
Utilize Salesforce CRM and analytics tools to manage and report on pipeline health
Explain the M&A process, reducing founder uncertainty and fears
Coordinate founder & executive meetings to move to the next level
Work with Industry Specialists to provide deep industry insights to strengthen relationships
Provide ongoing market updates, industry reports, and acquisition insights
Analyze the potential targets to meet at trade shows and determine follow-up
Analysis & Decision Support
Analyze preliminary financials (PQ) with Portfolio CEO
Conduct SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats)
Create investment thesis and concerns with Portfolio CEO
Provide coaching, mentoring, and leadership to the business development team to drive performance, consistency, and accountability.
Foster a high-performance culture rooted in collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Job Qualifications

Exemplary interpersonal skills with both internal and external stakeholders
Competent user of data analytics to validate decisions and strategy.
Experience and affiliation with software and technology in general.

Willingness to travel regularly to meet potential targets, attend trade shows, or facilitate executive engagements.

4+ years of direct experience in outside sales, business development, and/or M&A sourcing
