Job description

Still I Rise is a humanitarian organization founded in 2018 to bring top-quality education and protection to refugee and vulnerable children around the world. Our goal is to end the global education crisis. We operate free-of-charge schools in Colombia, Yemen, the DRC, Syria and Kenya, with the latter also offering on-site boarding accommodation.

We are now seeking a COMMUNITIES, CHILD PROTECTION & SAFEGUARDING MANAGER (CCPSM). Working remotely, you will oversee the community-based stages of our student identification and selection, and facilitate the safe migration of new students. You will take responsibility for the safeguarding in our schools and in our boarding facility, leading a team of school counsellors, social workers, matrons and other professionals. You will coordinate and monitor impactful campaigns on topics from bullying to psychosocial skills development to sex education for students, caregivers and staff. And you will strengthen referral networks to provide proactive services and ensure students receive direct and holistic support from available partners.

Posizione:

Oversee the implementation of the community stages of our student selection process in each site

  • Organise, train and lead local staff to network with community leaders and other organizations and identify appropriate candidates for the in-school selection process, utilising home household interviews and visits to verify data.
  • Oversee accurate data tracking of the community phases of the selection process
  • For all relocating new students, e.g. those travelling from other countries or refugee camps to Kenya, oversee the safe and timely migration of the students to settle in their new environment, including communication with caregivers and prospective students.
  • Ensure the maintenance of Still I Rise’s excellent community reputation throughout the processes
  • Coordinate the verification of previously collected information about our students’ households in order that Still I Rise maintains a standardised profile database of every student’s circumstances in and out of school.

Take ownership of our safeguarding

  • From a remote position, manage the Child Protection staff including counsellors, matrons, social workers, nurses and psychologists to ensure the highest levels of wellbeing, security and discipline in our schools and our Nairobi boarding facility.
  • Train and support school counsellors to hold impactful 1-1 support sessions with students. Guide them to develop therapy paths with clear interventions for a planned outcome in each case.
  • Advise staff on the handling of sensitive and difficult cases
  • Through workshops with teachers and by including them in student wellbeing meetings alongside Child Protection staff, improve the full team’s capacity to empathetically explore and actively support each student's academic and behavioural performance.
  • Harness the potential of family support by actively improving caregiver engagement
  • Coordinate Child Protection staff in an international forum, empowering them to share best practice and professionally develop.
  • Maximize our service’s impact by achieving targeted student attendance rates, identifying and tackling causes of absence
  • Utilise official partner survey and monitoring tools to track and strategically improve wellbeing
  • In tandem with education colleagues, support students with identified SEN characteristics to receive the specialised support required from external experts and from an internal school environment proactively supportive of their needs.

Coordinate comprehensive campaigns with students, caregivers and teaching staff across our sites.

  • Strategise and implement a calendar of campaigns covering topics such as hygiene, bullying, sexual education & menstrual health, alcohol and substance abuse prevention, digital safety, psychosocial skills, emotions and trauma,
  • Line-manage each School’s Child Protection Officers, social workers and school counsellors to hold regular impactful sessions for families, students and staff throughout the year.
  • Track the key indicators of each topic and demonstrate improved concrete outcomes resulting from the campaigns and workshops.

Lead Protection staff to manage active referral networks which consistently, deeply and directly benefit students

  • Oversee each team’s mapping of potential partners from across the private, public and NGO sectors.
  • Ensure that in each site we facilitate regular proactive services benefiting the students collectively, including medical check-ups, protective workshops held by specialists in the area etc.
  • Ensure that in each site we successfully refer key individual cases so the student receives specialist support.

Requisiti:

Essential Criteria

  • Extensive experience in child protection and social services, preferably in an educational setting
  • Extensive experience of community engagement in low-resource contexts
  • Experience in counselling vulnerable children, including case management, risk assessment, and intervention strategies
  • Strong leadership & management skills – ability to lead teams in a hands-on manner, coordinate programs, and develop strategies and solutions
  • Knowledge of local and international child protection laws, policies, and frameworks
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care – understanding of child development and psychosocial support
  • Data collection & reporting capacity
  • Training & capacity-building skills
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills
  • Cultural sensitivity & adaptability
  • Flexibility to operate in a fast-moving diverse role
  • Good IT skills including use of Google Suite
  • Fluent knowledge of the English language (written and oral)
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Child Protection, Human Rights, Law, or a related field.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Working proficiency in French and Spanish
  • Experience working in refugee camps or with partners within refugee camps
  • Experience with the procurement of travel documentation for minors within low-resource settings
