Overview

Essence Ventures is seeking a talented and experienced Copywriter to contribute to the dynamic communication needs of the ESSENCE Festival of Culture (EFOC). This contract position offers an exciting opportunity to craft compelling narratives and engaging content for one of the most significant celebrations of Black culture. The Copywriter will work closely with various cross-functional teams and requires a creative, detail-oriented individual with strong writing skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop engaging and persuasive copy for a wide range of materials, including marketing collateral, social media posts, website content, email campaigns, event signage, and promotional materials.
  • Ensure all copy aligns with brand voice, style guidelines, and overall communication strategy.
  • Collaborate with the design team to create cohesive and impactful visual and verbal messaging.
  • Conduct research and gather information to support copywriting efforts and ensure accuracy.
  • Proofread and edit copy to ensure clarity, grammar, and consistency.
  • Manage multiple writing projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional copywriting experience, preferably in marketing, events, or related industries.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of writing styles and successful campaigns.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to adapt writing style and tone to different audiences and platforms.
  • Experience with social media and digital marketing best practices.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite (including Docs) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word).

Dates: This contract position will span from May 2025 through July 15, 2025, encompassing the pre-event planning, execution, and post-event wrap-up phases of the ESSENCE Festival of Culture.

Location and Travel: The ESSENCE Festival of Culture is scheduled to take place at the Caesars Superdome in the vibrant city of New Orleans from July 4th to 6th, 2025. All necessary pre-event visits and event day-related travel arrangements, including flights and hotel accommodations, will be fully covered by ESSENCE. Additionally, a pre-designated per diem will be provided for each required trip to cover incidentals.
