Job description

350.org is looking for a Senior Accounting Specialist works under the direction of the Controller. This position will be a key position to oversee the financial operations and accounting processes of an organization's affiliated entities and managing personal cost for 350.org’s staff hired worldwide.

Duties and Responsibilities for the Global Accounting Manager: 


Affiliates Entities

350.org currently has two affiliate organizations (501 C 4 and 350 Global).  350.org is also working on registering in 3 to 5 countries in the near future.

  • Develop and implement financial strategies for affiliated entities, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for affiliates, adhering to accounting standards and regulations.
  • Lead on the annual budgeting and forecasting process for the affiliates.
  • Oversee compliance with relevant financial regulations and internal controls for affiliate operations.
  • Analyze financial data, identifying trends, and providing insights to improve financial performance.
  • Communicate financial information and insights to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in affiliate financial operations.


US Entity

350.org is a 501 C 3 entity and is registered in the United States (US). 350.org has two branch offices (South Africa (SA) and United Kingdom (UK)) and hires staff through affiliates or Employer of Record (EOR) in 20 + countries.

  • Processing payroll, payroll changes and payroll accounting, including recording and posting payroll to the accounting system for US, UK and SA.
  • Receive and process invoices from the EOR (or affiliates). Ensure EOR and 350’s records are aligned for both invoices billed and payments made. Ensure posting to the accounting system.
  • Manage deposits made to EOR.
  • Liaison with HR department, Vistra (payroll processing company for UK and SA), 350 Australia for Australia staff, and EOR (Velocity Global, Safeguard and Rakes).
  • Prepare personnel cost budget and rolling forecast.
  • Monitor on a monthly basis budget vs actual for personnel cost
  • Do allocation of labor & other costs between 501 C 3 and C 4.
  • Ensure all taxes are paid on time and have reports confirming payments made to tax authorities.
  • Resolve payroll-related issues in a timely manner.
  • Manage the deduction of union dues and payment to the union.
  • Oversees hyper-inflation calculation and application.
  • Issue relevant payroll documents.
  • Identify ways to improve processes to be more efficient and effective.


Other duties

  • Assist with entering payments into banking systems for ACH, wire transfers, PayPal payments and other international payments in many different currencies, when necessary.
  • Assist with month-end close processes.
  • Assist with annual audit, tax Form 990 preparation and other regulatory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP, external policies and internal policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS


Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and minimum 5+ years of experience in accounting, financial analysis or similar role.
  • Nonprofit experience preferred, especially working knowledge of financial accounting for nonprofit.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and accrual accounting.
  • Strong understanding of the consolidation of affiliates and independent entities.
  • Strong understanding and 5+ years working with an enterprise accounting system/platform.
  • Have an understanding of different banking requirements in different countries to know how to submit payments.
  • Demonstrated expertise using Google Suite, Microsoft applications, especially Excel.
  • Experience of working in an international non-profit organisation.
  • Experience of working in a diverse work environment.
  • Experience of working with multiple currencies.
  • Grant accounting experience required.
  • Experience of working with Concur / Intacct desired.



Position Type: Full-time (36 hours per week)


Location: This is a remote position open to candidates based in the Netherlands, South Africa, the United Kingdom.


Compensation: This position falls under 350.org's Salary Grade 3.1, with annual gross salaries equivalent to EUR 73,074 in the Netherlands, ZAR 750,676 in South Africa, GBP 65,000 in the UK..
