As an automation controls engineer you will be responsible for supporting cutting-edge food automation equipment and driving continuous improvement initiatives to minimize downtime, maximize overall equipment effectiveness, and enhance operational efficiency and reliability of our automatio n systems while adhering to food safety standards and regulations. You will also contribute to our Total Productive Maintenanc e (TPM) program and build a robust Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) platform using Ignition and Sepasoft software.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for food automation equipment, troubleshooting and resolving issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Leverage your expertise of PLCs and HMI systems from multiple manufacturers (including but not limited to Allen-Bradley and Mitsubishi) to integrate and optimize new and existing systems.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to drive continuous improvement initiatives, focusing on enhancing equipment reliability and overall plant productivity.
  • Act as a key contributor to the rollout and implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) strategies.
  • Develop and expand the SCADA platform using Ignition and Sepasoft to enable real-time monitoring, analytics, and decision-making.
  • Implement data collection, analysis, and visualization solutions to enhance process control and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements in all control systems and processes.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of control system configurations, changes, and procedures.
  • Organize and conduct training programs for the maintenance and production personnel.
  • Lead or contribute to reliability, engineering, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Stay abreast of current technology to recommend changes to drive continual improvements to asset reliability.
  • Maintain positive vendor relationships; establish new contacts to benefit FreshRealm .

Qualifications

Skills and Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. This position requires the ability to effectively communicate with associates at all levels within the organization with varying degrees of controls and programming background.
  • Proven experience in supporting autom ation control systems, preferably in the food manufacturing industry.
  • Technical expertise in PLC & HMI systems from multiple vendors (including Allen-Bradly and Mitsubishi) with deep knowledge of industrial devices and sensors.
  • Familiarity with industrial networking protocols and equipment, such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, B&R, CANbus , and OPC UA.
  • Hands-on experience with Ignition and Sepasoft software for SCADA development.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) methodologies and principles.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Excellent data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and team collaboration abilities with a ‘get-it-done’ attitude.
  • Understanding of local, state, and federal codes, permitting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience managing and overseeing projects.
  • Self-motivated. Able to work independently and as a team player.

Experience / Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering , Automation Engineering, or related field
  • Master's degree preferred
  • 3-10 years of engineering and automation experience
