Why us, why now?

The Senior Research Analyst within the Health Care Affairs Cluster, Data Analytics and Research team supports the health-system (patient care) analytic needs of Health Care Affairs and the entire Association, and independently leads some of these initiatives. This role involves data collection, interpretation, and presentation of findings to internal and external partners.

How will you make an impact?

Designing Customized Data Reports:

  • Design customized member reports related to hospital and health system payment-related issues.

  • Maintain subject matter expertise to establish continuity from report to report.

  • Design, test, and disseminate member reports using Marketing Cloud or other platforms.

  • Validates and maintains member mailing lists.

  • Design customized member reports for ad hoc payment and/or health systems topics. Examples include hospital patient characteristics, hospital operations and finance, and Medicare policy.

  • Make recommendations to HCA and AAMC leadership regarding report design and implementation.

  • Maintain a record of each report release. Responsible for producing and maintaining programming files for importing, data checking, and analyzing data, including the development and maintenance of quality control checks.

  • Accountable for the report schedule and for the report’s release in a sound and timely manner. Provide day-to-day support to report recipients, including content-related questions. Contribute to the strategic plan for socializing and communicating the report.

Publications & Research:

  • Identify and analyze timely and topical data sources for the purposes of generating internal and external presentations or for publication in a priority area for AAMC. Examples include research related to the value and impact of academic medicine; proposals for new payment policies.

  • Update regular AAMC publications. Assess and develop recommendations for process improvements for routine products

  • Execute multiple presentations of the findings, as appropriate, for different audiences. Accountable for ensuring compliance with AAMC and applicable federal or IRB policies and procedures.

  • Represent the AAMC and its health care concerns in meetings with other Associations, members, and at public meetings. Participate in speaker panels and present at AAMC or other conferences

Ad Hoc Policy Modeling and Analyses, and Research Requests

  • Work with HCA and Government Relations staff to design, build, and populate models that assess the impact of potential policy changes.  This includes interfacing with other Associations as well as Federal agencies to support the models’ creation and discuss implications.

  • Develop relevant subject matter expertise to support the functionality, accuracy, and accessibility of the analysis. Data for the models is generated from internal survey response data and external (e.g., Medicare Cost Report, Medicare Impact File, Hospital Compare, and AHA Annual Survey) databases.

  • In collaboration with Health Care Affairs and other AAMC staff, design, build, and populate presentations that assess ad hoc questions to support AAMC’s policy and advocacy positions or member benefits. This includes interfacing with the relevant internal or external partners for the request.

Data Collection

  • Collect relevant information from survey data or other data sources to build the custom reports including regulatory policies, information generated during external associations’ conversations, public data releases, and other sources.

  • Manage member communication, such as convening member panels to capture feedback and make improvements.

  • Ensure the successful collection and reporting of ad hoc survey data, as needed.

  • Accountable for collecting and reporting data in compliance with AAMC and applicable federal or IRB policies and procedures. Responsible as Data Steward for the collected data.

What you will bring to the role

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, economics, epidemiology, health services research, public health, or a related quantitative discipline. 

  • Preferred - Master’s degree in statistics, economics, epidemiology, health services research, public health, or related quantitative discipline.

  • 5 - 7 years of related work experience

  • Extensive experience working with hospital (Medicare cost reports), administrative medical claims (inpatient and outpatient), and clinical data

  • Working knowledge of Medicare payment and quality systems, e.g, GME payment

  • Experience using SAS, STATA, and Visual Basic.

  • Familiarity with hospital payment systems.

  • Expertise in collecting and reporting survey data, especially in health care.

Skills:

  • Skills in programming in a statistical analysis software package, as well as logical data organization and management.

  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel; ability to build meaningful data presentations and meaningful visualizations in software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PowerBI.

  • At least 4 years of experience in analyzing large datasets.

  • Proven quantitative analysis skills, including knowledge of statistics and research methods, particularly as applied to large databases.

  • Ability to independently validate the integrity and quality of data and results.

  • Ability to manage project timelines and workflow.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills to both internal and external audiences.

  • Ability to explain complex concepts and distill insights into a presentation to a non-technical audience.

  • Must be a self-starter, capable of creative and timely problem-solving, and managing multiple demands.

 

Remote Work Eligibility

This position is eligible for remote work in the contiguous US

Compensation Grade Range

$103,190.00-$121,400.00

Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors may include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, as well as internal equity, market, and business considerations.

If a bachelor’s degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions.  One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
