Job Summary
Reporting into the Senior Director of Solutions Architecture, the Senior Solutions Architect position is a high impact subject matter expert that closely engages across all functions of the Acuity Intelligent Spaces. Responsible for designing, developing and delivering complex, scalable innovative solutions that showcase the best integrated capabilities of AIS’ hardware, software and services and meet customers’ needs.
The Solutions Architect will lead the design and integration of advanced Building Management Systems (BMS) and Controls Automation solutions. This role requires deep expertise in BMS & HVAC/R controls, IoT, cloud-based analytics, lighting automation, and smart building technologies. The Solutions Architect will work closely with sales, product management, engineering, and customers to envision and enable complex, scalable and innovative solutions that drive energy efficiency, operational excellence, and sustainability in commercial and industrial buildings.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Solution Design: Architect and design highly complex integrated BMS and controls automation solutions, incorporating IoT, AI-driven analytics, and cloud connectivity. Ensure that proposed solutions are scalable, sustainable, and capable of delivering the desired outcomes.
- Architecture Blueprints: Develop and deliver comprehensive architecture blueprints that integrate 1st and 3rd party ecosystem products, ensuring seamless interoperability and scalability.
- Technical Leadership: Provide expertise in system architecture, networking, security, APIs, and interoperability between different building control systems. Act as a mentor to junior team members and contribute to best practices and architecture frameworks.
- Customer Engagement: Earn trusted advisor status by collaborating with clients to understand requirements, conduct site assessments, support art of the possible envisioning sessions and recommend tailored solutions that align with their operational and sustainability goals.
- System Integrator Engagement: Partner with system integrators, OEMs and relevant technology vendors to shape platform choices, adoption and successful implementation of recommended solution architectures.
- Standards & Compliance: Ensure proposed integrated solutions adhere to industry standards such as BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with sales, product management and technical support teams to develop proposals, technical documentation, and proof-of-concept demonstrations. Channel voice of customer back to internal teams for continuous innovation and demonstrate high customer obsession.
- Continuous Innovation: Stay up to date with emerging trends in smart buildings, energy management, digital twins, and predictive maintenance to drive technological advancements.
Skills and Minimum Experience Required
- Bachelor’s, Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Computer Science, HVAC/R technologies or a related field.
- 12+ years of experience in solutions architecture, system integration, or engineering within the building automation, IoT, or smart infrastructure sectors.
- Extensive expertise in BMS platforms (e.g., Distech, Johnson Controls, Niagara, Schneider Electric, etc.), and control systems programming.
- Solid understanding of IT infrastructure networking for BMS integration. Cisco or equivalent certifications, such as CCNA, CCNP and/or CISSP are preferred.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and edge computing.
- Extensive hands-on experience with protocols like BACnet, Modbus, OPC, EnOcean, LoRaWAN, MQTT.
- Hands-on experience in developing and deploying containerized applications using tools such as Docker (preferred), Kubernetes, LXC, etc.
- Knowledge and experience in developing, testing, and deploying RESTful APIs in a production environment.
- Proven experience with data analytics, AI-driven automation, and digital twin technologies.
- Strong communication, presentation, stakeholder management and technical documentation skills.
